Default Cast Ammunition In Plastic

I have seen individual rounds of ammunition cast in clear plastic for display purposes. Anyone know how to do this, or of anyone who does it? I have an idea for a comparison display and thought this would be an elegant way to see similarities and differences.

Great question. I’ll be waiting for the replies.

There is a metal fabricator that I deal with. He is really into Weatherby's and has all of the many “proprietary” Weatherby cartridges for the rifles he has, cast in lucite. (?) They really look pretty cool.

I’ll ask him about them but I’m not sure he did them himself. I suspect he did.

Any lead would be appreciated. I am thinking about doing the 9mm family. I am a huge 356TSW fan, no one knows what that is. (slight overstatement, but you know what I mean). I thought a mounted array from 380 to 9x25, maybe even 9mm Mag, might shed light.

Weatherby used to sell Lucite blocks with its entire line of proprietary cartridges embedded in the block.

I speculate it is done by pouring liquid Lucite in a mold of some kind. The cartridges are probably standing on small Lucite blocks in the bottom of the mold and then the mold is filled up with liquid Lucite and allowed to cool until it solidifies. The block is probably polished after being removed from the mold.

Bing has many sites listed, including eHow for lucite block making using resin, water and a mold.

Default We're on the same page..

Go to any "lady's" craft/hobby supply outlet. They have casting resin and hardener for what I think you are looking for.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I have quite a few cartridges in my collection I use in training! 's

That is exactly what he has. I finally got a day off and dropped by his shop. His son got them from Weatherby as a Christmas present. They are beautiful, clear and seamless. The cartridges are floating/suspended perfectly in the middle of the clear blocks.

I also would like to do that at least with my wildcats but I don’t think I could replicate what I saw this afternoon.
