Default Slide Lock Problems

I found that my recently acquired Model 41 had a problem with the slide not locking “Open” which turned out to be a worn protrusion on the magazine follower, which was not engaging with the slide lock arm. Accordingly, I have purchased a couple of new magazine followers, but before getting stuck into the task, I was wondering if anyone has previous experience with removing the magazine but-plate and can offer any advice on just how to go about it.

The springs are installed one way , this applies to all mag. springs . there is a right and left and a up and down position . Just because you can shove the spring back in the body that doesn't mean it will function .

Photograph / make drawings and make 100% sure the spring is installed just like it came from the factory... look at size and direction of spring loops . They will only work one way .

Gary,

I've got a couple of brand new model 41 magazine springs in my parts drawer that are identical at each end, same in length, windings at the ends are the same both in shape and diameter of the opening. How do I tell which end is which, and how to properly orient them in the magazine spring cavity?

Dam... Managed to get two new magazines and after just a few shoots the plastic protrusion which activates the slide lock has already broken the tip and no longer operates. As anyone else experienced this problem?
