Default 1911 E SC flat recoil spring

Has anybody changed out their standard round wire recoil spring on their E series Scandium Commander 1911 to a flat wire? If so, whose spring did you use and what weight? Does the full length guide rod have to be changed as well or will the stock guide rod work? Thanks

I can't speak for changing the recoil spring. As to your second question about the guide rod...I'm not sure what you mean by will the full length rod "work". Is there some reason you think it won't? I understand the traditionalists who like the short guide rod along with the internal extractor and that's OK with me but the full guide rod and external extractor work just as well. I've had a S&W 1911 since they came out and it has been 100%. Bought another a little later and it's been 100% as well. Let me know if I'm missing something.

Having said that you can switch out any part you wish...it's your gun. Joined in 2016 and your first post...impressive level of restraint.

My question on will it fit was in reference to the diameter of the guide rod. I have used Wilson parts in the past on other 1911s where the flat wire was a smaller internal diameter and needed their smaller diameter guide rod.

We purchased one from Wilson Combat to put in a Colt 1911 that we used at a range where I worked. The spring would not fit a standard guide rod so we had to purchase the Wisen Combat guide rod to go along with the spring.

Thumbs up

Wilson Combat flat spring ! Works with every 1911 pistol. Just buy it with proper guide rod.

The only commander size recoil spring from Wilson that I could find is for the 4” models and not the SW 4.25”.
