469 Condition Question
I'm looking at a Satin Nickel 469 with some wierd wear on the end of the slide. Not sure if it's wear or? Current owner says he's leaving it as is for the new owner to figure out since he's not had this long.
(I know, seams fishy). Maybe discoloration from body oils (from carry)? Attached are some pictures of it along with the box label. Hopefully one of our experts can chime in on what it looks like and if it's fixable. Only a shooter grade pistol but for $550, I'd want to clean it up if purchased.
Thanks in advance

469 Condition Question
Maybe exposed to a lot of sweat while carried ?? $550 seems high for that. Just my opinion.

That one has been carried inside waist / sweat infused and worth a fraction of asking price... keep looking!

From what the other cali members say , you have to jump on what you can get in that state . I have 2 469's and 2 669's . They are my go to pistols if I show 9mm . I don't have a 952 yet , so I go with what I have . I don't know what it is , but mine are very accurate .
Could it be bead blasted ? Or is it pitted ? Is it on the list so one can come in if you bought it out of state ?

Ouch, that's in rough shape if it's corrosion, which it appears to be. That box looks like it has mold on the label from water damage. Hard pass at $550. Maybe $250 as a trunk beater.

Eh, while this is very true for I'd still pass on a corroded 469 for $550. The all-metal S&Ws aren't incredibly common or cheap here but they do show up, I've lucked out on a 6906 in much better condition for less.

Well, if you have money to burn....I would pass on it unless the price is at half.

Not on list (not much is anymore). I haven't seen it in person yet so not sure on the pitting. I think trying to re-finish it would put the total cost on par with a NIB example.

I think you're right-on on the value if this was in the free states. Unfortunately, when sellers see $300 guns selling for $600 due to the current market conditions in California, trying to introduce reality is hard.

I've noticed a few good 3rd Gens selling up north for decent prices in the last 6 months. A 6 hour drive one way is a bit much (especially having to come back again in 10 days for p/u) but I was tempted!

Guess the grass is always greener on the other side, there's been more than a couple down south I'd have jumped on if I was an hour away. The furthest I've driven for one has been 3 hours and I'm probably not going to do that again for anything unless someone throws up a rare Performance Center for sale.

I've seen a very similar corrosion pattern, from blood splatter, on guns used in a suicide.
Personally, I would pass on that one. Regards 18DAI

Thanks loads, 18!
I was already kinda grossed out just thinking the speckles might be from butt sweat.

Thanks 18DAI. I've personally ruined a Nickel 36 when I first started carrying 40 years ago. Using an inside the waist leather holster and not realizing my body salts/oils were toxic to bright shiny finishes. When I finally removed the 36 from the holster is when I discovered the disaster.
The marks on this 469 looks different from my old mdl 36 which explains this post. Your answer makes sense.

I've done 2.5 hours each way before which is about my limit.
It would have to be a special piece for me to drive any further.
(or maybe ammo at pre covid pricing )

I realise guns in Cal. are hard to come by and not cheap...........but
PASS on that one ...... unless you need a $250 truck gun!

I have to agree with the others saying "pass on it". Guns in Cali may be overpriced, but you might as well pay a lot for a gun in good condition. This one is not.

Update
Seller sold the 469 yesterday. The interesting thing is the sellers comment to me via PM. Here it is:
"Less than $500 is not worth using up one of the few transfers I am legally limited to per year. If you haven’t noticed, it’s a seller’s market. If someone can’t get their hands on a 9mm - this is a viable option. If someone is looking for a truck gun - this is a viable option. If someone is looking for a collector’s item - they can move along."
I guess that sums it up for the market in Comiefornia right now!

Actually, that's great for you. Someone else bought the probable problem child. With the corrosion likely under the finish, who knows what the insides look like.

Let me get this straight , you're only allowed so many transfers a year out there ? I would have been in prison by now if I lived there . I find it hard to believe the market is that bad out there . What would they charge for a PC gun , a 945 ? Have to rob a bank to buy one ?

antilamr,
I was actually the no. 2 buyer for that when the individual first posted it (at $500) - the first buyer apparently backed out and I made arrangements to meet the next day or so at a shop in OC.
He did have extra mags and was wanting to maybe sell them for an extra 100 and made a comment about the 'low price' (since apparently he was getting a lot of interest...and well, CA).
I too wanted to rescue/save it and get it refinished, etc -
Seller ended up having to back out for a decent enough reason which I was ok with; later he messaged me and offered first dibs before posting it after his situation had changed (but at 600).
I have a little 'if one door closes, another one will open' type luck with guns...ended up finding me my CS40 with five factory mags right after out so I kindly passed.
(PS I'm jealous of all of you who don't have to deal with the roster and have access to many more 3rd gen smiths and the like!)

I guess we both lucked out by not getting it. I you happen to come across another CS deal, give me a holler! Wanting a CS9 or a CS45. Maybe a finders fee for you? My luck on finding 3rd gen's locally is not very good!

antilamr given the restrictions and other obstacles you face in purchasing, were I you, I would find/purchase the CS9 first.
I have two CS9s. An early black model and a very late production stainless LE surplus that I carry during the hot and humid weather or on occasions where I "cant have a gun" like Church or gatherings with non gun friends/relatives.
Having shot and own/owned a 669 and a CS45 as well, I would take a CS9 over both. The CS9 exceeds both the other guns, in my experience, in terms of concealability and has better handling/shooting characteristics.
Were it not for member TercGen making me a set of his excellent Delrin grips for my CS45, I would probably no longer own it. Kinda big for deep concealment and kinda small for everything else. For the caliber.
The 669 belonged to my late father. First and only semi auto he ever purchased. Before he passed, he instructed me to sell it and buy something I wanted with the proceeds. I purchased the black CS9.
The CS9 shoots like a bigger gun. Great trigger and very good accuracy - when usedxas designed - ie 7 to 10 yards, shooting fast and close. It is not a target pistol. But as with the 3913 it is a gun that S&W got right and is probably one of the nicest 9mm carry pieces out there. I know I love mine. Good luck with the hunt! Regards 18DAI

That’s $300 tops! But in this crazy time we live in, $550 might just be a good deal. How bad do you want it?

I bought one of these from a dealer in N.C.in 2015, specifically as a travel gun for a driving trip out west.
The nickel plated 469's were a custom order from Ashland shooting supplies in Ashland, Ohio. about 30 minutes south of me. It wasn't a shop, they were a distributor with a storefront that would sell retail. I did not know at the time that I may have looked at one many years ago, until I researched it.
Be aware that mine had an unsatisfied recall on it, which S&W repaired at no cost.
They aren't particularly rare, I think there were 10,000 or so made.
So, I think you can find a better example.

Ashland 469
Was that 10,000 nickel 469 to Ashland or the total of all 469s?
I have one from Ashland, so I’m curious.

10,000 for Ashland, I remember reading it somewhere...I can’t find it now. I do know that there are a lot of them. Has anyone ever sent for a letter?
