Default Missing Color in Safety

So I have a 4566 and the red is missing from the dots on the frame. I’ve seen other pics on gunbroker of the same model gun, including one on there right now that the gun looks new, with the same missing dots. I have o,dear and much more beat up 3rd gen guns that still have the red dot. Was this normal for the 4566? I’ve seen like 10 of these without the dot.

I just looked at my S&W .45’s.

My 4566 does not have the indentation colored red. My non-railed 4513TSW, (7 rnd, ) does not have the indentation colored red. My 45 CQB does not have the indentation colored red and it is ANIB.

I did not look at my 9mm’s since the question was about a 4566.

Wow. I've never noticed on my 3rd gen auto's. As long as the decocker/safety works. Who cares?

Not so much that I care. Just wondered. My friend just inherited a very early 4506 no dash. The safety is colored in. My 5903 and 5906 are both colored in. Every other 3rd gen I have owned has had it colored in. The dimple is there. Just weird the factory never filled it in when it is clearly supposed to be.

Default L/E option??

My 4566 has the "Decocker lever" it is spring loaded and does not stay in the "down" position. The indentation is not painted red.

I have heard L/E armorers say that this is a L/E option!

Smiles,

It’s not a decocker only. And it doesn’t bother me. Just wondered why it was so. Particularly for a safety. The lack of “red is dead” warning would seem to be a weak spot for a lawsuit in the event of accidental shooting.

I did that long ago on a 5906 I had that the red came out of one side. Never looked good and my 4566 is in such nice shape I wouldn’t want to screw it up. Plus, it doesn’t really bother me. I just wondered why S&W would obviously choose to not color it in.
