Default Current 3rd Gen Values?

Possibly looking to sell the following unfired (NIB/LNIB) S&W 3rd Gen specimens to fund another project. I have multiple other current 3rd gen shooters, so I am not abandoning the platform by any means.

This is a total unknown process for me. Have always been a buyer not a potential seller. Looking for asking prices for the S&W’s listed below. Would consider selling individually or as a group. If the values are not sufficiently high enough to do what I am looking at, back in the safe they go. No harm no foul. Would offer here to the loyalists first if interested.

All are as stated above, unfired with exception of possible factory test fire.
Model— serial number
5906 — BDK4***
4006 — VDF1***
4013TSW — MSE5*** (no rail)

Thanks in advance. MODs if this frowned upon, please delete. As mentioned above, never a seller before.

Since no one has beat me to it I will throw my thoughts on here. Since there are NIB, I would say close to $600ish for the 5906 with the two .40s a little less. The 4013 is an odd one. If it is a double stack I still think between 500-550, but if it is a single stack it may be the hidden jewel in your collection. All of that could change come Wednesday depending on how the election goes.

4013TSW would be of the double stack variety, not of the single stack 4013 4014 4053 4054 series.

As for value and sellability, you have good and bad. On the good side, you are talking NIB examples, unfired, top condition (or should be expected to be) and these are sometimes referred to as a “time capsule” because finding one of these new in it’s box almost seems like it takes you back a couple decades to when you could walk in to a store and get one new in the box.

On the flip side, two of the three are the most highly produced and least sought after models. They are fantastic models and were massive sellers, but they are also easy to find.

My best advice would be to sock them away and revisit the idea in 10 years. And while each and any one of us may have a different opinion, I’m staunchly in the camp that says no, absolutely not should you ever shoot these. No way.

I say this because finding a lightly used example of any of these is extremely easy — but finding a NIB/unfired example is far more difficult.

The 4013TSW is outside my sphere of experience. The other two, right now, could perhaps sell as high as maybe $750 each to the right buyer. It’s certainly possible that either could sell for more, but the chance of you pulling that off is, IMO is slim.

I can only speak for the 5906 - there were lots of these (appears to be at least 200+, maybe as many as 500+) released late last year / early this year by SW.

These were "Like New" in matching s/n Hard Case with 2 magazines. Supposedly New Old Stock or Display Models or used for Gun Show - many variations of story - but essentially "New" being sold as Used - same SW part number with U suffix 108176U. Others have speculated these were made up more recently from unassembled parts in stores or returned from unissued Law Enforcement contracts.

There were some variations - 1 mag, 2 mags, 10 rd mags, 15 rd mags - also a bunch of 5946s (108186U) in same condition priced about $50 less.

All that I have seen with box end codes 011119 or 011419 and normal SW documents. Manufacture dates of 5 S/N prefixed guns I checked by query to SW came back KNC (1998), VUV (1997), VZB & VZE (1996), and VCZ (1995). VJP s/n I got that came back 2009, though I have a 6946 with VJP prefix that is within 120 of it that came back as 1998 so I think that is an odd ball or maybe error.

Originally they were selling just under $600 but as supplies depleted, some were going in excess of $700. Several at $750 did not sell on auction site - may still be some posted there.

One other thing that may affect value - not sure which direction - is where pistol was made - for example BDK prefix shows up as 2006 (+/-) which could have been made in Houlton, ME vs the more common Springfield, MA. It will say on pistol where made. Some prefer the Springfield guns but Houlton ME are definitely more rare.
