Default Advcentures in Model 39

Got my first 39-2 in 1978. Bought it new. Shortly thereafter I started dating a girl and stupidly sold the gun to finance a weekend trip with her. Should have kept the gun for sure. Dumped the girl a short time later.

Bought another 39-2. Used. I don't even recall but I let it go for some reason. But before I did I had a little adventure with it.

I was sitting in a tavern, drinking a beer and minding my own business. This scruffy looking guy sat down next to me. He started calling me all sorts of bad names. Mind you, I had never seen him before in my life. He pulled up the leg on his jeans and showed me a 2" revolver tucked into his boot top. Told me about all the men he'd shot.

I slowly got up and left.

Now, this is where I get stupid. Remember, I was young and my brain wasn't yet fully developed. Also, any laws I broke (and there were several) are way beyond the statute of limitations.

I went home and got my 39. Stuck in my waistband, covered with a jacket, and went back to bar. I walked in and the scruffy gentleman was seated with his back to the door. I slipped off the jacket holding to conceal the 39 which was now in my hand. I then sat down next to guy and said "Howdy!"

He turned his head and looked surprised. I hand the gun in my hand, laying on the bar with my jacket over it. I calmly said "If you think you can get that 38 out of your boot before I shoot you nine times with this 9mm, then go for it."

He sort of paled. Arose very cautiously. Then left. As did I.

Yes, very stupid.

My last 39-2 purchase was from a police auction when I had an FFL. The ATF came calling to check on that gun because some dealers didn't log those auction purchases. I did. Showed the agent. We were cool. Still have that one.

That’s a good one. I’m not sure about the “development” excuse (), but I guess you’ve lived long enough to wise up and hopefully don’t do too much of that anymore.

Then there’s the matter of dumping BOTH the 39 and the girl. Bad luck all around. Given your track record, you might want to consider staying away from 39s.

Man, I hope that was a good wknd! As far as the other adventure,
who has not done that. Hey, you got out alive and lesson learned.
From now on, carry the 39 in your waist! why go home. best, Mike
