I finally found one, a WVSP4566TSW
Guy's I sure am proud of this one...
She's in fantastic shape doesn't look to be shot much at all, just the slightest bit of high side wear towards the muzzle.
I love that these were never offered to the public, well not really, I think S&W screwed the pooch on that on, but anyways what a fantastic piece and a even better shooter.
I got her soaking for a good cleaning and ill send the sights off for a refresh Monday..
I ran 16 threw her at 20yds right when I got home put a couple threw the same hole...
P.S. She came with the issued Troopers name:
"G.E. McCabe". Anybody know/of Him/Her.. wonder if
they are here on the forum?
Erik

Congratulations! I would love to own one of these myself someday, but I've already got a CHP 4006TSW, which I'm very happy with.
It's really cool that yours came with the name of the officer who carried it too.

I wonder if it'd be possible to convert those or some of the earlier .45 TSWs to 10mm by sticking on a 1066 or 1006 slide. With them being as scarce as they are I definitely wouldn't waste one trying though.

I auctully just got lucky when I ran across her on a big auction site, threw my bid up and watched her intently. To my surprise nobody came along so I ended up with the win. I happy I got her, I just love the intergral rail on it !

I still have my 4566 carried as a deputy. (I switched to a G-22 with "everybody else"! Sold it the day I retired!)
The 4566 still gets carried at times. That TSW is really special!

Beautiful! So the 4566TSW is a blued 4566 with a spurless hammer? The integral rails look great. I always thought the riveted on rails looked like an awful after-thought.

Is there any reason why it might not be a good idea to post this information up here even though it is available on the internet? I'm just raising the question. I really don't know and am certainly not trying to be critical. It does seem rather specific. Certainly no forum member would misuse it but we are not the only ones here are we?

This thought went through my mind as well. I don’t think I would toss the other owners name up here. Put yourself in their shoes, I know I wouldn’t want my name and history being captured by the internet.
Nice find......and when I read your posts, I can tell how excited and giddy you are!

Not blued, it has been Melonited, a form of Ferritic Nitrocarburizing. It's a case hardening treatment to the surface of steel which makes it nearly as hard as diamond and greatly improves corrosion resistance.
It's the same treatment you see on the M&P Series, just under a different trade name. (Nowadays S&W is doing their own in-house Ferritic Nitrocarburizing, so they call it "Armornite" now, which is apparently just an unlicensed knockoff of Melonite.)

Is the information you “took down” still included in post #10?
If so...
Just asking.

I work at the WV State Museum, which is on the State Capitol campus. Lt. McCabe's name sounded familiar, and I now remember meeting him last year when we opened an exhibit for the 100th anniversary of the WVSP.

Not all of them were melonited black, I think only the WVSP were. I have a 4566 TSW that was made & stamped for the Kentucky State Police, but they were never issued to the troopers. Ill have to see if the pictures transfered to this new phone........
Mine never had the rail attached like some other 4566TSW's did. I believe the WVSP was the only one with the rail molded to the frame. Some other 4566's had a rail riveted on, and removal left two holes in them.
Congratulations on the find! Been hoping to score one myself.

Nice going, Eric. I watched that auction, and I thought that must be you bidding. I knew you wanted one, so I'm glad you found it. Mine's a never-sell for sure. Love everything about it.

I was watching it too, my fingers were itching to place a bid, but in the end I'm glad it went to you Erocksmash. Still kicking myself for not picking one up when they were selling in the $800's...

It's always a great feeling when you find a gun that you've been looking for for a long time. Enjoy that fine piece of machinery.

Its very satisfying... the chase is half the fun.. now the wait on Trijicon...
I did try the 1066 slid on the 4566 frame, it didn't even come close to rail to slide match so I was gonna bother, oh well...

Well fellas she's complete! Got the fresh 2020 night sights back from Trijicon today and I was chomping at the bit to get them installed...
A big shout out to Masterbuck54 for getting ahold of a patch for me... I love how there are some genuine people left in the world!

I’ll bet that view the WVSP post is better from the outside than it is from the inside! Cool pics.
