i don't know if it's a scam or not yet but i'm looking at possibly buying a 1987 645 stainless .45 - it looks to be in great condition - the person wants $700 and i wanted to ask the forum if that's a good price or not - i know nothing about this model - thanks -

Looks to be in good shape. I just bought one for about that price. I’ve only had it out once but it’s a great shooter! Buy it!

It isn’t a rotten price but a couple things should be noted.
First is that the original plastic grips are missing. Aftermarket Pachmayr are installed. I prefer the Pachmayr to the original plastic, but as “value” goes, that is a deficit.
No box is shown, so we can only assume it isn’t included. For better or worse, the box is a big part of the market value.
The pictures are nice but I think there is a chance they aren’t telling us the story. I say this because the two original mags with the metal floor plate REALLY look polished and now I wonder if the pistol is polished.
These were never polished outside of an energetic owner with a scotchbrite pad. Some folks like the look but one thing seems universal — the polishing lowers the market value.
I can’t tell if the pistol is polished. It may well be.

That Model 645 appears to have been polished to a high shine finish. Not the original finish, not the original stocks, the two magazines with the metal floor plates look to have also been polished and are the first design magazines, which are the least desirable from a durability and reliability standpoint. Personally, I think $700 is a bit steep and you don't know what else might have been done to the pistol's insides. I'm thinking more along the lines of $600 maximum and only if the pistol is mechanically sound.

I absolutely love good deals and I basically only chase used guns. I dump a lot of time, energy and love in to this hobby and the folks in my circle will back me up on that.
With that said, I have no use for Armslist.
It doesn’t bother me that here and there I will miss a good deal because the signal to noise ratio there is atrocious.
Armslist sucks.

The thought of an Armslist deal makes my skin crawl. If there’s no other way, I’ll live without the gun.

It could have been to rob you. We have a local gun sales/trading website here. I know there have been cases where sellers meet a prospective buyer only to be robbed at gunpoint. In your case it could have been the cash they were after.

My experence on meeting a seller miles from your residence is once you have traveled to the meeting place, the seller changes the price or the weapon has been overly descriped

i guess i've been pretty lucky so far - i've purchased several guns and many boxes of ammo this year from Armslist with no problems - i have come across scammers like this guy and have been able to flush them out before any problems could arise - they're not the brightest bunch but i can see how vulnerable people could get scammed - anyhow, today is a good day because i got the call that my 5906 has arrived! going to fill out paperwork today - i'll post pics once i have it

I’ve had zero issues over the years with Armslist, buying and selling.
I picked up a couple of nice ones too, mostly local.
I meet in public areas with lots of people around.
Long distance scammers are easy to flush out.

Ditto ladder13's post. Unfortunately Armslist locally is demanding either $3 or $7 a month from both sellers and buyers. (They will not allow you to contact buyers without paying.) I don't find many guns I'm interested on their site anymore.

I'd avoid Armslist.
I prefer the 'hands-on' approach to buying used and prefer to see and examine the gun in person ... The seller too, unless he's known to me, such as a fellow member of my Club, or my gunsmith, or one of his counterguys there at his Gun Shop.
How I came into mine:
'Clean' 645 ... What's it worth?
