Can't imagine what it's like to have your old pistol back in your possession. That's too cool. I love this generation of 45 acp auto loaders. I'll contribute my non commemorative 745, one of my favorites. We will need a range report stat!

Here's a couple of my 45's . You have to like these guns . S&W definitely put some love in the mix when they made them .

Fantastic! At my age I am replacing all the stuff I loved in my youth that got away from me.

I’m so glad you got it back. That’s a great pistol. Ive always appreciated and enjoyed my 645. The few firearms I’ve sold went with the stipulation I would be the first in line if they were ever not wanted and were for sale. It hasn’t worked out yet.
You asked for S&W .45 auto pictures so I’m adding an outdated one of mine. There’s another “new” one not in the picture. I think I’m done in my .45 wants, but maybe just one more.

Impressive line up 4T5GUY. Your forum name is well justified.

Congrats on getting a treasured relic from your past back in your hands! I have lost some guns in trading that I wish I could have back, but I had to be satisfied with replacements.
I bought this 645 new in the box in January, 1987, shortly after it was shipped in December of 1986. At the time these were new and state of the art. Mine has been unfailingly reliable, even with empty cases when manually operated. These are still great guns, and with the ample weight, very easy on the hand in recoil. Don Johnson used one on the TV show "Miami Vice" for a while.

Indeed he did and his always seemed to be louder when he fired it than anyone else's firearm.

How many other guns made now will cycle empty casings? Has the engineering reached a point where it is common? I haven't tried it with my other guns. Hmm, there's something to do today.

Had one just like it that I bought new when we transitioned to the 645 as our duty weapon. Great pistol; would feed empty brass. I replaced it with a 4506 when they became available, as well as a 4516 for plainclothes work and off duty. Wish I had them back today.

I don’t give much credence to that. I once had an AK that would not hand cycle live ammo at all. I just bought the gun, & wanted to see if it would cycle, & it wouldn’t. I was going to return it to the mfr, but figured I’d try it first on the range. Took it there, & fired hundreds of rounds without a single failure. So to me, that’s a useless test. GARY.

I managed to buy a 645 this year and I'd been looking for one for some time. Mine has a serial number of TBB13XX so I guess it's a little newer. I'm really pleased that it's in good shape, as they're rare in these parts.
I have to say I do love my third gen 45's more though along with my 1066. The 645 is a beautiful pistol though.

That's because Sonny had the 645 re-chambered to 10mm AUTO.
He missed his ol' 10mm Bren Ten so much.

I'm thrilled to have this gun again. As you can see the hammer, trigger and barrel at the ejection port are all polished. I had that done along with an action job when I bought the gun new. I loaded up a magazine with fired casings and the gun cycled them all flawlessly. Now I need to get it out to the range again. Please share your S&W .45 autos if you like.
According to the SCSW this is an early 645. Learned something new about this gun.

Very nice ... attached is a pic of the minty one I snagged back in the summer.
