A 1066 Back in the 10mm game
I sold all my 10mm pistols before we moved to England in 2016. I have been missing them the past 12 months or so. I bought a used Sig P220 SS Elite SAO 10mm at a very good price. Its a fine pistol. But it's not a 1990s S&W. I haven't seen the 10xx pistols up for sale that much that I thought were priced right. I finally decided the reality was they are just more expensive now than in 2015/2016. So today I took the plunge and am buying a 1066 off the classifieds. It was $1100 shipped so that you don't have to look it up No need to worry about a few hundred dollars here or there. I always say if you buy and sell enough, it all evens out in the end. Plus you are buying what you want... so thats the most important aspect anyway.
It will be good to get a 10mm S&W back in the safe. I have been keeping my eye out for a 610 pre lock but they are pricey. Maybe someday I'll stumble on one that is being sold by someone that doesn't use the internet...

Hahaha, great snag. I saw it and I considered it but I just love the longer 1006, which I have, and I wouldn't be as happy with the slightly shorter 1066 but yeah, I did have to stop and consider it.
Folks complain about the magazine prices but I have a feeling they will level off. There seems like there are HUNDREDS of folks selling these mags so regardless of the (endless!) rhetoric... no, the mags aren't "getting harder and harder to find...!"

Glad you snagged it, bliss. Gotta tell you, though, that if I had an extra $1,100 lying around, that gun woulda been mine.
Hope you enjoy it and get many years of pleasure shooting it.
EDITED TO ADD: You got a good deal on it, too.

I would buy a 1026 for the oddity or another 1006 if I stumbled across a decent price on either. When it comes to guns out of production, especially LONG out of production, the idea of have a second one makes me sleep better at night!

The seemingly endless supply of 10mm magazine bodies finally went out-of-stock at Numrich a few months ago and Midway showed the floorplate catches as discontinued around the same time. Without the means to assemble them from parts the magazines will eventually become harder to find.

Congratulations on finding a Mod 1066 you like. Price is certainly relative in the gun world. I know my 1066 and 1076 are some of my favorite pistols.
Then you get the look on peoples faces at the range when your full power 10mm rounds cause the brass to go 20 feet behind you too.

Congrats on a desirable classic!
$1100 must be the current magic number for Smith 10mms. In the past 6 months I’ve picked up a 1006 and 610-1, both $1100.

Congrats on the 1066! I entered the 10mm world this Spring with a 1066 and a 1006, and am very happy with both. Mine had some extractor issues, but a trip to BMCM took care of that, and both of them run like tops now, even with the hot stuff.
