4003TSW Price?
An auction site has a 4003TSW, in box, looks really nice, BUT it's up to almost $900. Atlanta PD marked. Am I decidedly uninformed or is that a insane amount? Is it due to the police markings or are these worth that kind of $$$$. Thanks

It’s over $900.00 now. How do I know? I’ve been “watching” it. It would be a nice one but it seems to be getting into the PC price range.
30 June 2004 S&W was awarded the contract for these pistols from the Atlanta PD. Their value then was assessed at $900.00. There were just over 1500 delivered in that configuration. (Later TSW w/o rail.)
Not that long ago good used ones were selling for under $400.00. Some were never issued and this one looks like “it could be” one of those?
Heck now the excellent 4006TSW CHP’s are selling for almost that much.

4003TSW
For what it's worth, I bought a 4003TSW off the same site back in September for less than $330.00. I gave it a bath and swapped on some new grips. Looks pretty good. It came a non-matching box and a single mag. I felt like I ended up with a pretty solid deal in the end. Sorry for the ****** pic.

Nice pistol great price that you got.
But... this one does not and has never had a rail. I’m still missing why it’s gonna sell for that much for sure. Especially since it’s a .40.
Maybe I’m just mad cause I couldn’t get it for my $500.00 +/- limit.

Condition + Timing + Desire Factor = The price you pay. I have an Atlanta, no rail with night sights NIB. I got it at a reasonable price. Then I got a like new 4006TSW CHP and it broke $1,000. I would do that one again, and I did. It broke $1,100, and I would do that again. Because it is a 40 is a plus because I have added a 9mm and a 357Sig barrel both from the 5906TSW stock barrels. I have been collecting S&W pistols for 60 years and have had 97% of the pistols S&W made, including the PC models. I have sold most of them while picking up the 4003TSW and 4006TSW CHPs. If I had to sell everything, it would be a fight between the 4003TSW Atlanta Police and the 4005TSW CHP for the last one sold. However, I don't have to sell everything so I'm HAPPY.

Those predated the 4003TSW. The .40’s were what the Atlanta PD replaced the 5903’s with. I’m not sure but it perhaps takes a while to transition so maybe there was an overlap.
Back story/history. In 1991 the Atlanta PD were using the 5906’s. When the 5903’s became available they placed an order and switched out to them. (Mid 1990’s.) Those 5903’s were and still are, (in my biased opinion,) very nice and desirable pistols. They were specified to be non-spurred hammer with night sights. What more could you want? The whole lot that “was left” went to one distributor and were selling for @ $300.00.
I can’t even imagine what an ANIB one would go for now. If one came up.
