A friend of mine knows I have a 4506 so he gave me three magazines for it today. The floorplate is marked "45 AUTO S&W", but is otherwise unmarked. The follower is metal and the floorplate does not seem to be easily removed/replaced for maintenance without causing permanent damage to the tabs. One of the springs seems to be put in opposite of the other two as well.
Can somebody identify these mags for me? I am not sure if they are original S&W or aftermarket.

I am guessing not OEM. My S&W large frame mags are all welded all the way to the top and none have that odd metal floorplate arrangement. Most have synthetic followers and the ones that are metal are blackened, not shiny. I am confident somebody with better info than me will jump in.

OEM, I’ve got a few of those and the two that came with a pistol were with an IPSC Anniversary Model 745. Also found with the 645 and 745 were metal floorplate and bright Orange, nearly red plastic follower. And still a 3rd variation had the same metal floorplate with a crude hard rubber “drop pad” glued on.

All of these pre-date plastic floorplates.

645 and 745 never came with plastic floorplate magazines as far as I know.

I have seen magazines like that before. Possibly very early 645's.

They look like the magazines that came with my 645.

The floor plate and spring design looks like the some of the early 39 9mm magazines also. So definitely S&W and not aftermarket.

Right now there's a 745 owner wondering where all his spare mags went. Those are vintage 2nd Gen factory mags in what appears to be near-mint condition. Hold onto them or if you don't want them, you can send them to me. I'll pay the shipping.

Those are the first version S&W Model 645 magazines. Beware, when slammed hard into the mag well, the magazine base plate can slide forward, potentially to the point it leaves the magazine body. Also, the metal follower may fail to properly engage the slide stop when the last round is fired.
