Default Need a little help on Pricing S&W457

Hi All,

I am thinking about selling my Zanders two tone 457. It is in great shape has 2 mags and the original case for it. I added XS sights a few years back (the original were worn out) as well as the cushion Hogue grips, but i have the original grips for it. Not sure what these are really worth so I thought I would ask for some opinions. The few I have seen on Gunbroker are $575.00 and up but I think that is high,

Thanks for any help,

I think $575 is not out of line.

I have 2 of them , one's a shooter the other is NIB . The NIB one I bought about a year ago and paid $500 for it from a member . Now-a-days with people buying anything $550-575 is not a wild price . The 457 is great carry .45 .

Down here in Southeast Louisiana, you'd probably fetch $375-$450. 3rd Gen prices seem to stay fairly low here. That being said, I don't think asking $550 or so is too high in the current climate of things, and with the 2 mags and box.

ImjnScout, I watch the auctions of these on GB and elsewhere with interest, and for a long time these guns (to me) were undervalued based on their quality and durability. Having owned both a 457 and a 457S, I thought good condition used examples were easily worth $425 for the black version and $500 for the silver, but they usually didn't sell for quite that much.

Recently, though, I think these guns would easily bring that much -- including your Zander gun. Asking prices in the $550 and higher range aren't being met with offers, even with price inflation, so if you're thinking of selling on an auction site, I think you could expect to get $500 or so for your gun. Local sales probably would be a bit lower, depending on your area. Just my .02.

Until, if ever, the unrest settles down again, center fire handgun prices are very flexible as it is now a matter of finding what you want for sale rather than finding what you want at a good price. I doubt that price is out of line at this time.

457 is a value line gun. I do think $550 is a little high. I just recently sold my 4513TSW on the big site for $600 and it sat for a while before that. I replaced it with a Houlton-made 3914DAO NYPD for the same price, which is another scarce model.

350-400 will move it quick. 450+ will probably take a while to sell.

Glockman's 4513TSW looked to be in good used shape and came with the box, but it only included one mag, which likely was the reason it took a while to sell for $600 after initially being offered at $699. No disrespect intended, and testing the market first before reducing price is not a bad strategy in these times.

ImjnScout's 457 with two mags and the box is easily worth $500, and if he chooses to sell it online and wants to start the bidding at five bills, I think it would sell. OTOH, a no-reserve auction for ten days or so and with good photos is IMHO the best way to attract interest and bids. Be interesting to see what it would bring under those circumstances.
