What part?
Hello S&W fans, I have problem with one of 4013s. I noticed that when the pistol is cocked, the trigger moves freely back and forth, presumably this is the take-up stage. Now, my other 4013 doesn't do this. I tried looking up the part on the Numrich diagram and it looks like maybe the trigger plunger and trigger plunger pin are needed?
What do you guys think? Thanks for any advice.

It is your trigger play spring that is broken.
It's a small, brass colored piece of thin metal riveted to the drawbar that keeps the trigger from flopping around.
They tend to get bent or broken fairly often.

Yep, broken or bent trigger play spring. The good news is that your pistol will still function just fine. The bad news is that in single action, the trigger can flop back and forth, which many find annoying. Interestingly enough, the California Highway Patrol ordered their 4006TSW's without a trigger play spring. It is possible for the spring fingers to break off and jam the trigger, which is not a good thing when you life or the lives of others depend upon that pistol working correctly.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that this one is the non railed, double-stack TSW. I didn't see the part in the diagram yesterday, but remembered reading about a riveted part and was hoping that it wasn't what was broken /bent.

Well, this is what it looks like in a regular 4013. I was curious so I looked it up at Numrich.

That's the part! I didn't see it in the diagram for the 4013. I guess I should have scrolled down the list. I have the part in the railed 4013 but when I took the slide off of the one in my OP, it's either broken or never had one, like posted earlier. I didn't see a hole where a rivet would go.

Hi, raygixxer89!
When the CHP sold off their 4006TSWs, they also sold a bunch of 4013TSW non-railed models.
Possibly yours is one of theirs and it might have been supplied by S&W without the trigger play spring.
My CHP4006TSW has no hole in the drawbar for the spring rivet.
I have a non-railed 4013TSW, but it is not one of the CHP trade-ins so it does have the spring.
On S&W parts list, the trigger play spring is #79, right after the trigger, and I believe Numrich lists their diagrams in the same numerical order as S&W.
BTW, do you own a Suzuki GSXR?
When I was in the motorcycle business, we often called the Suzuki GSXR models "Gixxers".

Mine did not come with a trigger play spring or a hole for the rivet.
I replaced the whole assembly with a NOS one that had a, (new style,) play spring. It was not needed but I just didn’t like the “feel” of the trigger without the play spring. That’s just me though and I understand and agree with wanting the omission of them.
The one on the right is another one I have and just used it for the representative picture.

The Original M39 Didn't Have One, Either
I've got a copy of the Norman/S&W original patent application for what later became the Model 39 and it hasn't a play spring.
Later.
DC
PS - While I'm citing the patent application, comes this little tidbit: Norman does not call his "magazine" a magazine. Throughout the patent application nowhere can one find "magazine" even though Norman wrote often of the device he called a "clip!"
That's funky.

Hi John!
Yes, I own a 1989 GSXR750, the faster blue and white one (little inside joke).
Mine doesn't have the hole for the rivet either so I guess I won't worry about it.
I need to get the same year bike in 1100. I love 2nd gen gixxers!

Great pic, thank you. Yeah, I don't like the way it feels either but I'm not gonna worry too much about it. At least not yet.

You have a 4013TSW pre-rail. Pre-rail because they made them for two years without a rail & then added a rail for the following years.
I have a CHP model as well as the civilian model.
Since yours doesn't have the hole for the trigger play spring in the drawbar it's probably a CHP model too.
Does yours have the matching CHP inventory control numbers on the right side of the slide & frame, like in my picture?

Bluedot, that looks almost exactly like the FZ1000 that I sold just a couple of years ago!
