Hello, all! (Probably a stupid question, but...)

Does anyone know if the sight dovetails (both front and rear) are dimensionally the same between the S&W 5906 Novak and S&W M&P Series? In terms of footprint, they appear to be identical. I'm considering picking up a set of Trijicon HDs for my S&W 5906, but I'd really like to make sure they'd even fit before I go out and spend Trijicon money... I'd have to buy the set made for the M&P, since Trijicon doesn't make HD sights specifically for the 5906. Maybe Trijicon's marketing of the sights specifically for the M&P is just because S&W doesn't produce the 5906 anymore? Either way, any insight into this would be much appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

My M&P full size currently wears a front sight sold for a third generation 9/40. I’ll have to look at the rear sight situation

Very interesting! In that case, I'd imagine they're identical. They sure do look it! I'd love to get a set of HD sights for my 5906.

I'm kind of interested in the answer to this question too because I want to give the blacked out rear sight a try on my 5906 but I want to get a dedicated sight for it instead of messing with the existing one. I'm specifically wondering if anyone has been able to get one of the Dawson Precision novak low-mount sights for the M&P to work with any of the 3rd Gen guns.

Trijicon SA07 made for 59xx series 3rd gen pistols - still available - believe they are still in production as are the SA08 for 69xx series and compact 39xx.

I checked a rear sight from a Shield I had in my parts box, and it appears to be a hair wider than the dovetail on the 5906 slide. It probably could be fitted to the slide if one had to. Not at all definitive, but just casual observation. Might be worth a call to S&W and just ask about dimensions.
