Default Source for 3rd Gen wooden grips other than Hogue?

I’m looking for fancy wood grips for 3rd Gen S&W autos. Is there a source out there other than Hogue? My early searches have not found any.

Thank you in advance for any tips.

You are looking for KSD, and they are in Turkey. Plenty of great reviews, I’ve bought from them only once and was extremely happy with the product and the communication.

I had some Turkish CZ82 grips, though I don't think it was KSD (I got them on Ebay). The wood dried and split. Curious on the Gen 3 KSD grips, the wood would seem to be fragile. Are they thicker than the polymer grips?

Not sure why you're dismissing Hogue.
I've had great results with Hogue checkered wood grips over the past 30 years on my 3913/14s

Got some KSD grips on a couple of Berettas ......

There are a couple of vendors on Etsy that have them. One is certainly KSD, the other may be selling KSD products, just from a different vendor, but they do look a little different. All of them that I looked at come from Turkey.

I prefer Hogue, but decided to try a set from Turkey. The Turkish grips were very nicely and precisely finished, but made from a pretty bland, light, straight grained, Walnut compared with the Hogue offerings. The Turkish grips were enough wider than the stock grips, that I did not care for them and found them a new home...

BTW, Nill offers, or at least used to, grips for the 3rd. Gen S&Ws. Mention is made that they come with, "4 fastening screws and fitting". I've not tried the Nills for S&Ws, but have used Nills on some other guns. Very high quality grips.

Some of the WISCHO Target Champion guns came with Nill stocks. The grip frame must be modified for these as the 3rd Gen and PC guns do not have grip screws or bushings (except the 952/945)

Also needs to be noted that Nill stocks often cost somewhere in the neighborhood of a well-used and low priced 3rd Gen beater in a pawn shop. Or to be a little more clear, Nill stocks are freakishly expensive compared to most aftermarket stocks.

No one posted a picture of a pistol wearing KSD grips, so here is my 1006 with them. I don’t have that pistol any longer, but I did keep the grips when I sold it. I have a 1026 now, but haven’t gotten around to swapping the stock grips out for the KSD yet.

Ummm I am not sure how you will get the KSD stocks to play friendly with the Sig-style frame mounted thumb decock lever that swings under the left side of the grip. The 1026 and 1076 don’t use the same original S&W grip that the 1006 used.

I never even thought of that. I’ll have to get them out and check it out. I wonder if I can do a little light dremel work on them to get them to fit(and hopefully not bugger them up)

I would love to think it is possible, however when I look at an OEM 1026 grip and compare it to an OEM 1006 grip, I can’t see it being possible.

To say it another way...
Could you alter an OEM S&W 1006/4506 delrin grip to make it fit, function, look acceptable and feel right installed on a 1026?

Seems to me that you actually need to ADD material for this to work.

Yeah, I just checked them both out. There’s not enough material and I’m sure I’d butcher them beyond reason if I tried.

I have a set of KSD's on a 3914. Size wise they fall between the stock grips and the checkered Houge's. Very nice looking. Mine have just the merest hint of play in them.

I have a set I bought when KSD was 1st opening up in USA maybe 8 or 9 years ago. At least I think thats when they started selling 3rd gen grips. They are beautiful and reasonably priced. I like Hogues G10 grips they make for semi autos that don't wrap around. Sig, CZ.. I have 2 sets of Hogue wood grips for a 59xx. I find then too big for my hands. They are great for display. I have sitting around..I will have to put them on a gun!

I happen to be a BIG fan of Hogue grips. I do not have many S&W autoloaders with wood, but they are on Lots of my SIGs

My 1006 wears the Very First 3rd Gen grip that Hogue ever made. They were on a 4506 display at the SHOT Show in Dallas, but they came home with me These are made from Brazilian Rosewood which is no longer available as a choice

KSD makes some nice grips and I have had no issues with the three sets that I own. Both sets of grips pictured here are older KSD grips from the days before they got in trouble for using the S&W logo on the grips. Today's produced KSD grips have a KSD logo done in the S&W style. You would be amazed at now many people do not even notice

I think that you will be pleased with the quality of KSD, it surprised me

Colt_saa, what is the story behind the 1006 you pictured? Never seen a 1006 with that old school fixed blade rear sight. Without more angle to offer more detail, it almost looks like the original 645 rear sight.

How is that on a 1006? Now that I zoom in a bit, I can see the original cut for a Novak.

That is an early 1990 production 1006 with the original sights

There are two product codes for the fixed sight, round trigger guard 1006. Perhaps the type of fixed sight used is the reason for that

the KSD grips are also wear well....these have been on my daily carry 3913NL for years now with no signs of loose fit yet....this pic is a little old and I have to admit I do handle them carefully just because I don't want to dent the checkering..

Default Grips

Already made and delivered. Halfway around the world in a week. So far I’m impressed. As soon as possible I’ll check the fit.
