I purchased on an Internet auctions site what was suppose to be a 7" model 41 barrel. It looks like one but it is much thinner. It is .69" wide. Did Smith & Wesson have a design change on the 41? Mine is a modern manufacturer. Or is this a model 46 barrel?
I measured two of my M41 barrels. The first was 0.695 wide and the other is 0.700. I dont have a M46 to compare with but I hope this information helps you. The 7 barrel has not changed since 1978 when the compensator was eliminated and the barrel shortened from 7 3/8 to 7.
Pictures would help. The 7, 7 3/8 and 5" 41 and 46 bbls are the same width. The 5.5" is wider on the 41 & 46 bbl. The 46 bbls are not undercut for the slide rail like the 41 bbls. The 46 slide rail is narrower in width than the 41 slide rail and therefore weaker and NOT recommended with HV loads - to prevent cracking.

The 7" barrel is .695, the 5" barrel, that came on the gun is .856"
