That would be a blast to the past! It would be 1975 at the Police Academy when I fell in love with the Smiths for the first time! Do I need another 9mm, no, of course not. Do I want another Smith? Heck yah~!

I had a NIB 59 until 2 weeks ago . I figured they made a bunch of them so I might as well shoot it . I was really surprised , it shot really well . The trigger is not a 945 trigger , but it's not bad . The accuracy also surprised me , although it did like 124gr the best . All in all I'm glad I bought it here a couple of years ago .

All of my firearms are shooters. While a NOS NIB unfired would be cool, I would just shoot it. I'd rather find a nice clean 90-95% one.

Need has propelled about 10% of my firearms acquisitions.
Want has propelled about 90% of my firearms acquisitions.
Stupidity has propelled 100% of my firearms liquidations.

My thought on NIB guns...

I have had some and look at it this way. I can either shoot it and enjoy it as intended or I can let someone else have the pleasure. Most I have taken the pleasure but admit I still own one unfired. Having said that there are those who get a lot of satisfaction from a NIB unfired gun so if that's what makes a person happy then they need to do that.

There isn't a wrong answer.

I sold a very clean blue 59 years ago. I have a 39 and 52 that I kept. Now I came across a 59 in Nickle today that's calling my name.

If its calling your name, answer it and take it home. Dont fight it.
You are weak, just succumb to the call. You will be a better man for it.
Plus its shiny.

I get it. I've been accumulating 3rd Generation pistols lately.

Just bought a 3914DAO off the Forum yesterday.

I could be gambling it away, or on drugs, or on hookers.

I consider it a reasonable use of funds.

Plus I have something to show for my purchase.

Besides no money, and a STD

Score.... I came up with a super clean (about 98%) Model 59 for $500 plus $10 PPT dealer fee and $37 CA DROS fee. Not cheap but it was definitely not a cop duty weapon or regularly carried pistol. Checking gun broker with panic prices, even a beat one would be $400-$425 and 79% $450.

Need to make arrangements to get together for the Commiefornia private party transfer and 10 day jail. Ironic that I found a full magazines worth of my old Speer Lawman 100 grain duty ammo!

I have 6 Model 59 magazines. Four are Smith & Wesson factory 14 rounders, one is I believe Mec-Gar, and one is no-name, but reliable. I am leaving one factory original with original follower, and the other five I upgrade with S&W factory orange 5906 followers and matching orange springs. They make the 14 rounders into 15 rounders. One, the no-name, made it 16 rounder instead of 15. I also have a new recoil spring and extractor spring for it. Probably won't need them since it is very low miles, but good to have.

Argh, waiting for my new to me Model 59 to clear 10 day Commiefornia DROS jail. I'd rate it 95%. Grips have virtually no marks, and no real holster wear. When I get it, I am loading up the 15 rounds of vintage Speer Lawman I found in my stuff, just for old times sake!! Hard to believe it was 43 years ago that I got my first Smith Wonder-Nine!
