S&W 539 Blued Steel and Wood😁😁
I usually dont hang out here on the Semi
forum. I thought I'd share a 539 model
Smith pistol I have in blue steel with a few grips.
The current wood finger groove types it wears I lucked
into on an online auction site. Ive never seen these before or since. It Also sports a set of Grasshorn bone grips at times along w the
orig walnut wood set it began with.
The all steel construction really soaks up the
9mm very well. I also love the adjustable sights
and their look Smith developed for the model type. Just a neat looking and shooting pistol😁
Here's a few pics of this one of mine..

Agree! You just can't beat blued steel and wooden grips.

The 539 has always been one of my favorites. My 539 was my carry gun until I retired it after picking up a 915. I have to admit that I swapped out the original grips for a set of Pachmayr's.

Hi fleabus101! I feel like a Baptist in a liquor store running into another revolver guy here! I sorta got backed into S&W auto pistols when I inherited a Model 39. I decided I wanted a more durable version so I bought a 639 and have been like a kid with an erector set ever since. Like you, I prefer the heavier steel frame to aluminum... I’m not going to carry it all that far so I’ll gladly swap away lighter weight for more durability.
Regards,
Froggie

All I have is a Model 909 for my full size single stack fixation. I'd like to snag either a 3906, 639, or 539.

There is nothing wrong with that 909 until you want to do some customization on it. Then the changes they made to the “Value Series” may rear their ugly head, and some parts may become a problem. I personally feel the 539 and 639 represent the climax of the S&W single stack nines. Others have their soft spots for Gen 3 guns, but I don’t join them.

Froggie

I want either a 3906, 639, or 539 specifically because they can be customized. The 909 is a great range gun. But I want something I can spruce up as a combat single stack carry gun.

Ive been told I tinker with stuff too much..I
bought a few finger baseplates and swapped them for the orig flat bases available on the current
made 9 Rd mags. So you see the result on my
pics included here. Kinda neater look with the
finger extensions from the 3913/14 series
mags..Too much tinkering but thats just my
nature good or bad😁😁

Sounds like you’ve gone down the same (primrose) path I did. Enjoy the trip, but hold onto your wallet, I’ve had to “pay to play!” I was going to have a nice economical conversion to my 639 using the 439 slide I had bought cheaply for the ambi safety for Dad’s 39-2. Then I mistakenly bought a 910 slide thinking it would fit my receiver (it didn’t, of course) then a 915 “parts kit” and then, and then...

Very nice! I've only shot mine once or twice but I like it very much...except for the DA trigger pull...not so good. But the SA is good. Not many rounds through mine so would smooth out a bit with use I'm sure. Enjoy yours as there aren't a ton of them.
