Default Question about factory sights on a 1076

I have been looking around at a few 1076 pistols for sale. I ran across one online that looks interesting but the rear sight is odd looking. Was there any other sight offered other than the Novak style fixed sight and the adjustable with the guard? This one appears to have something similar to a Bomar and no guard. I assume this to be an aftermarket modification. I did run across a picture of a 45 PC model with a Bomar, presumably from the factory but not a Gen 3 10mm. I will contact the seller to request some better pics but I wanted to be sure what I was looking for.

Solved. The picture he sent appears to be this, or very similar:

S&W - 3rd Gen. 10mm & 45acp - Rear Adjustable Sight - White Dot

It does not appear that the slide was modified, so I could go back to the factory Novak sight. We are pretty far apart on money so I don't guess it makes a lot of difference.

The 1076 was intended to be a 'fighting' 10mm for concealed EDC by L.E. or civies, so it was shipped with fixed Novaks only, with either white dots or Trijicon inserts.

A rear adjustable on a 1076 would mean it was either a special order or installed by the owner after purchase.

Your link is to an LPA adjustable rear sight.

It is an Italian made sight and S&W DID offer it as an option on the TSW models.

I don't think the LPA and S&W partnership had started at the time of 1076 production, so it is sort of a "factory original" sight.

Just not necessarily to the 1076.

The good news is that the LPA is an excellent sight (hence S&W's partnership) and Novak rear sights are inexpensive and easy to find.

It's a win-win!

John

My preference is the Novak sight. I was concerned with whether the slide had been milled to accept the adjustable sight. After the seller sent me some better pictures of the gun I could see that it had not been. I was not aware that the 1076 was not available with an adjustable sight. Thanks.

I've used LPA sights on S&W 9MM and 10MM pistols. Works well, and no slide milling required. As mentioned, S&W did use the LPAs on some guns, but not as the standard factory sight on the 1076s.

That is what I was trying to confirm. Nothing wrong with the quality of the aftermarket sight but the combination of the gun not being original configuration and not having the box would affect the value of the gun. Once I determined that the slide had not been modified the sight was not as much of an issue. It turned out that we were too far apart on price to make the deal even if the gun was pristine and had the box.
