Default New to me CS9D

I just recently picked up a cs9D. It might just be my favorite 3rd Gen DAO to date. For those of you that have one you know what I mean. It is almost identical in size to my daily carry non all metal auto pistol. I don't care much for the sticky fat grips but I know of a fix for that. I have not gotten to the range yet so I don't know how it shoots.

If you want to get it's full potential , send it off to BMCM . I have a CS9 ,40 and 45 , also a CS40/10mm . All of been worked on by him , except my newest CS40 which was NIB when I got it .

Okay, Marine, who is the Master Chief Boatswains Mate and where do I find him? I have a CS-9 and a CS-45 that I like to carry and I especially wouldn't mind tinkering with the CS-9.

I don't mind the "sticky fat grips" on the .45 but the Tercen-type (sp?) stocks on the 9mm are delightful.

I’ve seen the picture before but have never asked.

What is the “grip tape” for on the left side of the frame for? (If that’s what it is.) I’m definitely not questioning it, just asking the question.

I think I know but I’m not one to assume things.

I'm guessing press-checking is the basis for the tape.

This is one of the few 3rd generation pistols I would consider owning, but it is not a reasonable use of money so I likely never will.

I like the CS9. I carried this one in my pocket for decades. The only problem is that you will now start searching for a CS40 and CS45. Enjoy, resistance is futile.

I think the CS9D is a fairly uncommon gun. I stumbled upon one locally a few years ago and couldn’t find a lot of information on them. If yours is like mine, it will shoot low with the sights properly aligned. I installed aftermarket night sights and that didn’t help. You can see this in the photo. The low rounds outside the main group were my first shots with the gun. I had to adjust point of aim to get rounds at the center of the target. S&W did a trigger job on mine for $160 which made the action pretty nice.

For those who don’t know, unlike most 3rd generation S&W autos, it’s a true Double-Action-Only. Even if the slide doesn’t cycle the mechanism still works. Most other 3rd gen DAOs, such as the 3953 & 5946, are set to a half-cock position which makes for a lighter trigger pull than normal DAOs. However, if the trigger is pulled and the slide doesn’t cycle the slide must be manually racked to reset the mechanism. In other words, they don’t have double strike capability. The CS9D does have it.

Figured they were rare. Never seen one. Matter of fact never seen more than 1 CS-9 since I bought mine back in 99. Sure became became popular after they quit making em. Big mistake on S&W part. Bet they would outsell the Shield line by a mile!

I believe the black ones are a bit less seen.
