Talking S&W 1st/2nd/3rd Generation prices - $500???

I have been fortunate to get all three of my recent acquisitions for about $500 each:

First was the former CHP 4006: 95% for $500 plus fees;

Second was my 6906, about 98% for $500 plus fees

Third was the minty 99% Model 59, for $500.

It may just be the northern California private party market is "$500" for used Smiths. Looking around on Gunbroker, though with panic prices, I think I have done pretty good, especially on the 6906, and maybe the 59, too. Really beat up 6906 are going for almost as much as my ex CA-CDC 6906, As far as 59s go, most are pretty well used police trade ins, and the really clean ones like mine seem to start at about $500-$550 and up

Yes look to be in great shape and amount paid more than fair. I figure the going price for Third Generation pistols anywhere from $400 to $600 depending on condition and location. Gunbroker of course could be higher.

I bought my (Gen 2) Model 639 a little less than a year ago and it cost me about $550 with shipping, FFL and tax. It came with just one magazine and had some scratches and dings but was in good mechanical shape, and had the ambi safety as well as the hooked trigger guard that I liked. I’d be hard pressed to get another one like it for that price today.

That’s a good observation. I’ve taken a shine to 2nd Gens recently and both the 659 and the 645 fell into that price range.

I agree, sigp220.45, the Gen 2 guns definitely hit my “Goldilocks Zone.” They’re just right! There are definitely some advancements that were made for Gen 3, but the ones I like can be retro fitted to the second generation guns and I just can’t get past those wrap around grips on the Gen 3s. I know it’s my own bias, but it is my own bias.
