Default TRIPLE K 10 RD MAGS FOR 39-2

Can anyone tell me if the Triple K 10 RD mag will fit flush into my newly acquired 1970 production Model 39-2.

I have one 8 rd factory mag. Does being a 10 rd mag mean the Triple K's mag spring is a bit weaker but will still function OK?

I'm also concerned about how the Triple K mag will fit.

Please advise..thanks !

I have taken other posters at their word and avoided buying Triple K mags for my 39 series guns due to their poor reputation for reliability. One often sees such comments as “They are only good for jam clearing drills.”

Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any other aftermarket mags for the 39s either. The good news is that original mags were made in large numbers and although they were being sold at nosebleed price levels a while back, they seem to have come down slightly in recent days. “Seek and ye shall find!” The latest full length 39 series mags are one round longer than the earlier ones. Some of these hang out below the grip well, others have a thicker floor plate that fills the space and makes a good bumper pad... you just have to look for the ones with the thicker plate.

Froggie

PS There have been several discussion threads here on this subject recently. You might want to scroll through and look for them for further enlightenment.

Tripple K mags have a bad reputation for having soft feed lips. I have read articles in the past year or so stating that this issue was remedied. I have no personal experience with M39 magazines. But I do have an OLD Hi-Standard mag with the soft feed lips!

I have two old Remington M51s. I bought two these Triple Ks to go with two factory ones I got with the guns, They all run perfectly well FYI.

I can't speak for Triple K; I've tried to find and use factory mags. I've read these 2nd Gen 9 round stainless magazines were for late production Model 639's. The stepped baseplate helps fill in the gap that would normally be found at the bottom of the Model 39 grip if using a 3rd Gen 9 round mag.

These mags also came in an 8 round version. I recently found the blued mag, which I'm guessing was for a late production Model 439. It does have the 9th round indicator hole in each side, but the "9" stamping is very, very faint. It was probably one of the early mags when they began transitioning to 9 rounders. You will see both these mags without the 9th round indicator hole so make sure you get the ones that give the desired capacity.

Hello bob, how much is it? If not to hurtful, buy it and give it a try.
Just post a report on your experience.

I can't speak to the Triple K magazines for the 39 family of S&Ws, but I have had 2 experiences: 1 with a 1911 magazine and 1 with a magazine for a Mauser HSc.

With the 1911 magazine, the floor plate fell off the first time I put 7 rounds in it. With the Mauser magazine, I was able to insert the magazine, but that was about it. The magazine body was too thick. I had to remove the grip panels and pry the magazine out of the frame. When I reached out to Triple K to see if they would stand behind their magazine, they never had the courtesy to reply. Honestly, I would avoid any Triple K magazine as if it were the plague.

Triple K and ProMag have earned themselves poor reputations. As for a 10 round magazine for the single stack S&W 9mm pistols, all would be longer than the factory 8 round magazine. The absolute most that can be made to fit in a magazine of factory length is 9 rounds, there simply is not enough space for a 10th round.

Triple K is junk. Your model 39 will also work with genuine mags for the S&W 3906, 639, and their carbon steel counterparts. The mag may extend just a slight amount farther from the grip frame, but they work fine.

Since you're asking I personally would just pay up and go with factory mags. Pretty much a guarantee that they will work. You could go with aftermarket and maybe it they will be fine but if they aren't then you will end up buying factory anyway and be out the cost of the aftermarket.

I'm going to put myself in your place and assume your 39 isn't going to be pressed into service beyond perhaps a home defense gun so you are really only looking for one or two more mags and not a whole bunch to fill all the pockets on your vest. Most will depend on a high cap striker fired for that. If that's the case then my advice is to spend the extra couple bucks to get factory. When you put it in the gun and it works perfectly you will smile and forget about the money.

I have had very spotty luck with Triple-K. In my personal experience fit is often marginal (excessive force needed to insert and remove) feeding is spotty and the feed lips deform easily, apparently due to lack of heat treating. If you guy enough of them and keep sending back the ones that don't work you will probably eventually get some workable ones, until the feed lips spread out.

I tried Tripple K mag for my High Standard Victor a few years ago, and it wouldn't feel reliably, gave it to a friend and he used in his High Standard perfectly and is still using it.

Over the years I've tried some Triple K's and the long and short of it is that some work OK and some are very problematic. Sort of the luck of the draw. You can see how thin and cheaply made they are - or at least I can.

Anyway, I've replaced all that I had - even the working ones, with original Factory 2 tone mag's from the era the guns was made in.

Last February I acquired a 3913 with 3 extra factory mags. Factory mags are not to be found, so I got 3 ProMags and promptly replaced springs, followers, and floor plates with S&W factory stuff. Overall slightly cheaper than factory mags. The ProMag bodies have held up well.

I found a couple of the Pro-mags at a pawn shop in the used mag box and acquired for <$10 each. They shot fine when tested, but I went ahead and replaced the follower and spring with factory S&W. They work fine for range, wouldn't carry though.

Triple K stands for Triple Krap. Never had any good luck with them.

I bought a 3913 in the classifieds, fortunately from a generous and patient(!) forum member. Came with one original magazine, one other S&W mag, and one aftermarket. All three work fine at the range. Have not hear a single complaint from any of the paper targets...

Single stack magazines are available at local gun shows, just not as cheap as they used to be. $10~20 a couple years ago has become $20~40 today, depending on which. Metal follower magazines seem to be at the top end of that range.

I've been picking them up for a couple years here and there, all seem to insert and lock up just fine. The 3913 may be more forgiving than the other single stacks. I have nothing else to compare, although I am on the lookout for a 39 too.

The trouble for me and all the other non-experts is knowing what is original to any one of the specific single stack models, not so much finding "some" S&W magazine that will fit... the bigger online sellers can't be bothered to confirm if the magazine they are selling with a gun is the original type.

I feel like the problem is a shortage of information, not a shortage of magazines!
