Default British Proofed 39-2

Have a British Proof 39-2 with Serial number A2952XX and it has 2 British royal crown BNP proof. I did internet search and have not found any reference of a Model 39-2 lend-lease program.
1. Anyone have info on background of such a British proofed 39-2
2. Would welcome help in identification on the manufacturing year of this pistol as well.

A 39-2 is way too late for lend lease.
It was probably sold on their commercial market, before the handgun ban in 1996.

SCSW Vol. 4 puts the manufacturing date as 1976-1977 range.

To get a more accurate answer you would need to contact S&W. A letter would cost you but may answer your questions about the British proof marks.

Thank you to both. Looks like it is about $100 to get a letter from S&W Sign Up - War Thunder

On the proof mark, does commercial sell firearm (before the ban) in U.K. require govt proof such as Brimingham proof? I mistakenly thought only military or police firearm needed and recieved govt agency proof. One more note of interest on this pistol. It has no import mark.

Just my best WAG but possibly purchased by a US Serviceman in the UK and went back to the US when his TOD was up?

Maybe some veterans can add info to that theory.

British law requires that all commercial firearm imported, produced or structurally modified in GB go through a proof house. I believe they have one in London and one in Birmingham.

Given the lack of any import markings, Iíd say thatís a good guess.
