Thinking about some KG Industries Gunkote for this 4043
I知 on the fence about applying a KG Industries Gunkote finish in antique silver on the slide and frame of this 4043. I知 not worried about hurting the value and I think it would look good if the frame and slide had the same finish. Thoughts?

Beyond stating the obvious (it's yours, do whatever you want), I wouldn't.
The reason I say this is that I have the same pistol, but yours is in better shape than mine. I like the 2 tone look myself.
In my case, I could justify doing that, since it has wear anyway.
Again, your call, keep us posted.

I hesitate to recommend removing anodizing on any aluminum framed pistol. And I am pretty sure all those cerakote finishes, require the bead blasting of the anodized frame prior to application.
Should you decide to proceed, please advise us how it turns out. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

I知 set up to apply coatings correctly (blast cabinet, spray booth and oven to cure). I only do my own stuff or I assist my buddies when they want to do theirs. I値l attach a few pictures of things that I致e done in my garage. I may dive into this 4043, I like to keep a project going and I kinda bought it to tinker with.

I think it could hurt the value. On the other hand if your not interested in ever selling it go for it. I have found that duracoat and ceracote don't seem wear well in the long run. I have a factory ceracote on a Sig and it is showing wear at the muzzle and side of the slide. The gun only has 1500 rounds down.Heckler and Koch puts the best finish I have ever seen. I have a USP 45 that was a LE duty weapon for 13 years and it shows little wear despite being in/out of a holster daily and used in ocean environment for five of those years..

I see nothing there that indicates a refinish is necessary. Will it look better if the frame and slide match? Not in my opinion (which is what you asked for). It'll look like a bubba'd up pistol.

The current finish is not in bad condition and applying a spray finish will only decrease this pistol's value.

yjp you are a talented refinisher, your guns look great. We are a group which views value through a collectors lens so our opinions and comments reflect that attitude.
