Value of 3953
I'm thinking of selling my 3953 to a guy at work. It comes wit the box and six mags. I had the frame coated black by CCR years ago. It's in good condition with just a small scratch on the frame. Any idea what it may be worth?

Here in metro Atlanta, the S&W DAO system is unpopular and the guns do not sell quickly or bring much money. I personally like it and own a 3953. My gun is a reimport and is so marked, which to some is undesirable. I have a dozen mags for mine. The mags with the curved baseplate will bring $30.00+ here. I doubt my 3953 would bring $300.00 if I tried to sell it here at home. I think $450.00 might be a starting price for your gun plus additional money for the extra mags.

For an uncoated 3953 in decent condition, sweet spot seems to be between $400 and 500. Higher end for original box and extra magazines (agree with $30 per mag after first 2). Subtract for coating for most people. Recently picked up a nice 3954 (much rarer blued version and at least in my mind more desirable) with 2 mags for $450.

I picked up a 3953 with 2 mags 2 years ago for 450. I like the DAO pistols because of their function like a DA revolver. The mags for the 3913, 3914, 3953, 3954 are starting to get scarce because of the increased popularity of those pistols.

Magazines are getting rare and expensive. I'm glad I "overbought" when they were plentiful and relatively inexpensive. Since aftermarket 39xx magazines all seem to be junk, I only bought OEM.

A few recent sales of 3953s on GB sold for a little of $500, but the majority of 3953 sales went for $400-450.
I'd offer $500 because the number of mags being offered sweetens the deal.

What’s this worth nowadays? No box or other.

I paid $600.00 for an ANIB one with everything a few years ago. I don't know if it's worth more or less these days.

Early 7 round configuration - for collecting maybe more desirable than later 8 round version - but for use, not as desirable as the later 8 round version. 7 Round mags hard to come by but 4 mags included. Later 8 round guns have more interchangeable parts such as grips and magazines with garden variety 3913/3953 etc. Probably less valuable than comparable 3913TSW which seem to be going in the $600-700 range. Find a collector who wants an early 7 round pistol and you might get $700+ with extra mags but no box.

Ladder13, I paid $341 + shipping and fees ($401.98 in the safe) for my 3953TSW no-rail back in 12/19. It is a fine shooter and comfortable CCW.
I'd gladly pay you $400 on a face-to-face deal. However, I suspect that there are plenty of buyers who'd pay more.

Appreciate it but I’m not offering it for sale at this point.

Thanks all. I think I'll ask for 450.00 and see what happens.

Nice gun! I own the exact same model, and happen to like the "short grip" better than the later ones. Mine came in a fitted wood box that also had a spot fitted to hold two extra mags, so I have 3 with the gun. Don't think the box is factory, but it seems very well made. Bought the thimg almost because of the box, lol.

I also own the TDA version. That's my EDC most of the time. I keep thinking about carrying the 3953TSW, but it's in such nice condition that I don't.
Mine came with the original factory box, paperwork, manual, and two magazines.

3953
Hope someone finds this and gets back to me. Father left behind a pistol when he passed which is a 3953. Ive been looking all over and all i can find is info on what im gonna assume are regular 3953. The one I have has a weird emblem and marked with "1st Edition". Like i said i cant find any info on it, really hoping someone with more knowledge can shed some light on it for me. Thanks!
(if picture is needed i will reply promptly with one)

There were 3 versions of 3953, the basic DAO, the early 3953TSW and the late 3953TSW. The original 3953 was made from 1991-1999 according to most information - though that probably means first ones made in 1990 - earliest I have seen was a TJA s/n prefix with a box end date code of 0351 (mid Dec 1990).
So in addition to picture of any unique markings, the s/n prefix might be of interest and if you have the original box, a photo of box end too.
There was also a 3953TSW which was made in a version with an odd grip with a short 7 rd magazine from 1997 thru 1999 with no rail and the more common grip with 8 rd magazine from 2000-2006 with a riveted rail. Both of these should be identified as 3953TSW along with s/n and would have a TACTICAL or similar billboard type marking on the slide.
Again - PICTURES of overall and especially the unique marking you describe.
And you can ask S&W for Manufacture Date when they are back in on Tuesday. Email model and s/n to [email protected]
