My mdl 952 continues to present questions. Thanks to all the good advice I received on another post, this one is more puzzling.

I have 4 magazines with the 952. Regardless of my load, the slide won't lock back on the last round. I've used very light loads of 231 right up to 85% of max or a little more. S&W even sent me the lighter spring which I installed.
I upped the loads of 231, tried Bullseye, and as a control, shot full power Federal Hydro Shoks. In all the rounds, the slide locked back only once on the last shot.
Any thoughts before I end up having to send it back for checking?
Might the fact that the gun can dryfired without the grip safety being depressed have something to do with it.

I was talking with my gunsmith yesterday. He suggested eliminating variables. So I tried shooting with all 4 magazines, same outcome.
Could I have TOO much oil on the moving parts. I've put a lot more oil on the rails and then into the slide-frame gap then the 4 drops of oil the manual suggests? You'd think that with the lighter recoil spring, this wouldn't be occurring.

The S&W grip safety is a firing pin block, it doesn't effect the hammer drop. Will the slide stop work if you manually pull the slide back on a empty mag? I only use about 4 drops on the rails but I do oil the bushing and barrel travel area pretty good. Also any looseness in your grip will take away from the slide momentum.

Does it malfunction with other shooters? If it does the same, don't mess around with that expensive gun, ship it back. Word of caution. I had to ship my 952 back twice for a repair issue. Ship all four magazines with the gun. I was told by S&W, the tech only fires five test rounds. In your case, 20 total rounds should be tested.

I shoot two .45s and a Smith 52 and am not limp wristing the 952. The last 30 or 40 rounds were double handed, arms rigid on a rest. The gun wasn't moving at all and wrists were locked.

If I have to send it back, would the Performance Center pay the postage? This is going to be a real pain if I have to mail back a Performance Center gun.

If you are the original owner, S&W will send you a shipping label at no cost to you. Like I said, My 952 went back twice (broken sear) before they discovered the problem. Just remember to describe the problem in full and ship ALL the magazines with the gun. Good luck.

PS: Don't use the nice aluminum case for shipping. I bought a plastic case for repair purpose return shipping.

Had a similar problem with a Beretta 22.The mag follower within the frame would dirty up and get sluggish, not kick up the slide stop in a timely manner.

I bought 4 magazines with the gun. The mags are clean and the springs kick the follower up pretty firmly.

I shot an IPSC qualification session today. With the last round being a full power factory Federal round in every magazine, the slide would not lock back once.
