Wondering what your thoughts are regarding a "best choice" for a newbie 1911 owner ... the Pro Series (Catalog # 1780110) or, the Doug Koenig "Champion Series" ( Catalog # 108287) ?

Used a 1911 for 6 years in the USAF but that was a very long tome ago. Have the 686 SSR which I think is terrific and am very interested in a .45 1911 for entering IDPA as a "newbie" and for general purpose target shooting for fun.

One of the primary differences in these two seems, for me, to be the Novak Fiber Optic sights.
Hope to hear and learn from your comments about the Pros and Cons of each or a Comparison of features that I should consider.

I don't think you can go wrong either way.

The choice from here is strictly personal. ie. fiber optic sights etc.

If you are into 9mm check out the new 9mm Pro. It's a honey.

I went with the DK ... just appealed to me more, and, the Trigger Pull was really sweet.
Seeemed to me, and to the two guys in the shop, that the DK was smoother in all of its operations than the Pro, but, the Pro was also very nice ... it was a close decision but the Carbon color on the DK and the smoothness of operation just won out, for me.

Having it taken back to SW for replacement of front sight with the Novak FO Green front sight before I pick it up and take it to the Range
... I have a FO in Green on the front of my 686 SSR revolver and am really comfortable with it.

I have the Novak adjustables on both my 1911 Pro series and M&P 40. I am very satified with the Novaks I have some eye problems and they help me to aquire the sights quicker than I beleive I could other wise. My pro series has a 4 and half pound trigger, which it did not have when new, I simply complained to S&W and they agreed to take from 5 pounds 11ounces to 4 pounds 7 ounces all on their dime.

I looked at the 1911 Pro Series with those same red Novak sights fore and aft and took it outdoors in the bright sunlight ... WOW are those sights something; really spectacular.

I'm going to try the 1911 I selected (The Doug Koenig) with just the Novak, Green, Front sight and the stock black DK adjustables on the rear but could very easily be convinced to change it all to look just like yours.

I might add Ken that even on an over cast day they still glow as if they have an LED inside them.
