Default 457 find at LGS

Iím kind of on a roll lately...

A trip a few weeks ago to a LGS resulted in the acquisition of a pristine 439 439 in the House and a few days later, the same shop is responsible for me buying a mint SigSauer M11-A1 for an incredible price...
Youíd think Iíd know better, but today I visited another LGS, way in Nassau County, far from my home. And what did they have in the display case? A used, mint condition, two tone 457, with two original magazines (but so far no box and papers...)
This is coming home once I get a purchase document. My first S&W pistol in .45 since a long gone 4516 early on in my career.
In the meantime, hereís a couple of photos supplied by the dealer (necessary to get the purchase document.) It's going to run me $500 out the door.

Nice find. The Zander guns are relatively rare, especially that condition. The frames are usually okay, but the black finish on the slide wears quickly with use.

Great shooters.

Great gun! Had a brand new one when they first came out. Bluing was very thin and prone to rust. Ran 200 grain CorBons out of it.

I have 2 of them , one is NIB , the other a shooter that is off being heavily modified . I also have a NIB 457S . I like these and they are great shooters . The problem with the Zanders is that black coating . It doesn't hold up and wears easily . If it's going to be a carry gun be careful on what kind of holster you use .
Mine seem to like the 185gr JHP's I get from Georgia Arms , but they ain't cheap right now , but they do come in Starline brass .

Congrats! Nice looking 457. Still one of, if not the most, underated 45 carry guns out there.

I carry mine often. Great pistol! Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

I purchased one similar to OP's at local show two months ago. Haven't shot it yet. Paid $550. Exchanged money and 457 and walked out the door. I love living in a free state.

I hear you who-man . Here , if you have a CCP you walk out the door with it . Otherwise it's a 3 day wait . You still have to be run through the feds site , sometimes that's the worst part .

He is in a Communist state that requires that you get permission from the Govt BEFORE you can buy it an take it home.

As SAFireman says, he needs a permission slip from the county sheriff for each firearm he wants to buy. As I recall, each one is listed on his permit.

Upon retirement from my department, I was issued an unrestricted full carry pistol license from my agency (County Police Department) But, in order to purchase a handgun, the requirement is to make the purchase, complete the required NICS check, get an overall photo of the handgun and a closeup of the serial number from the dealer and to then respond to the PD license bureau. There, for a fee of $5, the gun is documented and added to the pistol license. Then back to the shop with a purchase document, where the gun can be picked up. This process in, one form or another, has been in effect for the 45+ years Iíve been involved in pistol licenses and sworn service. And FWIW, this process can and often does vary a little, if you are licensed by the county sheriff as opposed to the county police department...

Congrats on your retirement Jim! Hope all is well up there.

I was going to comment, but you covered it. I would add, in my old county, the judge signed off on amendments, not the sheriff.

And some counties issue amendments beforehand so you can cash and carry.

As you said it varies from county to county.

I’m with 18DAI on this, the 457 is underrated. I’ve had four over the years and found them to be great shooters, standing up against my 4513TSW and 4516 in accuracy. My current 457 ZS (Zandersports) is a keeper, IMO.

Until now I have never opined myself, (amazing I know,) about the 457. Times up.

About two years ago I did get one just because. I knew what I wanted in a 457 and what I didnít. Over the years Iíve passed on several. Iím embarrassed I paid what I did, $550.00 plus plus plus. Turned out to be a final price more than I ever wanted to spend on a Value Line pistol.

But I got what I wanted and although I havenít run it much, itís everything and more than I expected. Iím somewhat biased in my expectations with S&W .45ís, and have some other compact 3rd Gen ones to compare it to. The 457ís are great little pistols. They really are.

I was lucky to find the one I wanted and will try to get over the price I paid for it.

Jim

Great 3G pistol. When i acquired mine (with help from members here) thought to be a Zander i sent off for a RJ Letter.

Mine was a run for Hill County Sports, Inc. Austin TX

Not every TT 457 is a Zander...

A nice, rare variation. Can you post a picture? I'm curious about the part where he says that the pins were stainless steel.

Thanks.

Nope. Maybe a typo and he meant to say "parts."

Very cool and thanks for posting your letter. Great input.

Iíve only got a few pistols ďletteredĒ and have likewise posted them here when needed. Kinda funny all of mine were not ďexactlyĒ correct and members here were immediate in finding the faults.

Roy is just using the information he has available. Iím posting, (actually reposting,) a very great reply I got back from him when I questioned a letter I got. This was in regards to a ďfewĒ discrepancies in the letter. Sorry itís not professionally redacted.
