Holster for 39
I'm looking for input from your experience with a holster for the Model 39.
Not worried about concealed carry per se, the pancake type holsters do pretty well for that but I have a CCW and holster that I already use.
Mostly just something secure and comfortable and not plastic.
If you have a photo or can point me in the right direction on the web I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Cheers

Sorry, no photo. I use a "Security Pro #4146 4046, about 25 bucks on Ebay. It's black leather with a thumb-break top strap. The style that cops used in the late 1980s. OWB.

I bought a Bianchi black basket weave duty style holster from another forum member here. They were made by the thousands back when the 39/59 series guns were LEO issue, and apparently many survive in good shape. Expect to pay a very reasonable price, usually no more than about $25-35 or so, even for a very nice example.

I use a Galco, L159WC CM244B. Right side draw, outside the pants, I like it.

Green Frog, I hadn't thought about the Sam Browne option, of course there would be a ton of holsters!
67tempest I like the looks of the Galco.
Both great considerations

Check out websites Bianchi, Safariland and Don Hume come to mind for duty/range style holsters.
A Bianchi 19L is a classic level 1 thumb snap.

Been using a Kramer MSP for my 39-59 for many years. Most comfortable paddle holster made! Not cheap however...

The most comfortable, durable, and versatile holster(s) I have ever owned are the two Davis Leather Co. 4500 Basketweave Duty Holsters that I purchased used from Numrich for about $12.00 each, six years ago.
These are tough holsters that were used by the training personnel at the S&W Academy for the Model 5906 sized pistols (curved or straight trigger guard) but fit EVERY S&W semi I own from the diminutive Model CS9 to the gargantuan Model 1006 and will even fit my 40 and 45 TSW Models with rails!
(Caveat: The thumb strap will not snap over the extended rear slide and frame of non-TSW DAO models, but will fit perfectly, otherwise.)
Hanging from a secure belt, I can carry all day and forget it's there (until I bump in to something).
They were designed by Gordon Davis (who worked with John Bianchi before venturing out on his own) and are still available new for $175.00 in a basketweave and $160.00 for plain.
Here is a link to a thread I started some years ago:
$165.00 Davis Leather Co. Duty Holster for $11.85 WOW!!!
And here's a link to the Davis Leather Co. page about this very holster:

If you can find one, used or new, I think you will be very happy.

I used an IWB Buckheimer-Clark 14C-79 holster for my S&W Model 3904.
This vintage holster worked okay for both square and round trigger guard 39xx models, but the retention was lacking so I replaced it with a Don Hume holster.
