Default S&W 4006TSW value

What is a fair price for a S&W 4006TSW these days? I would image .40 ammo will be hard to find and expensive even after the ammo shortage is over. I have a local gun shop that has a few of them in stock, but I would guess they've been picked over pretty well by now. A friend of mine bought one for $400 several weeks ago.

For a CHP, depending on condition, I'd say between $500 and $600. They seem to be slowly rising.

I told my friend that he got a real good deal on his. He said the grips were scuffed up, but the rest of the pistol looked fine. I had the same thing on a 5906 I bought a year ago. I bought some replacement S&W grips and now mine looks great. It also shoots great. If I buy a 4006TSW, it'll be the first .40 I've ever owned.

I have one, a CHP 4006TSW. Great shooter. Of the 3 .40 calibers I have, that is my favorite.

Mine is my favorite .40 also . I had BMCM put an LPA rear adjustable on it and a fiber optic on the front and it'll tear the center out of a target . I bought mine when Summit first got them , along with a CHP 4013TSW .

Before I bought it I was thinking they would have the barrels shot out and in bad shape , I was wrong . Looks like the CHP armorers took good care of them .

Have had 4 CHP pistols, 4046tsw, 4006tsw, and 4003tsw, shot one to death (cracked the frame at like 7-10K rounds). Have a good shooter now that is good to go. I wouldn’t be shocked if they are one day $1000 pistols for the CHP guns in good shape. If you are the fence right now is the day to get one in my opinion, if you don’t like it you will get your money back out of it.

Have any of you had any luck finding .40 ammo regardless of price?

It pops up here and there for me, but the most reliable source so far is my local range's reloads which cost the same as their 9mm ($20-25 for a bag of 50). When I get ammo outside of that it's only from local big box stores which aren't charging quite as much and they generally get 9mm and .45 with each shipment but .40 much less so.

The first 40 that I owned and shot was a 4006TSW just like the one in OP's pic and I soon fell in love with it and the round. Now I have about 5 or 6 of the 4k series pistols and will buy more! It's a disease I tell ya!

Maybe the last of the S&W Third Generation mass police trade ins. Mine made me a believer in 40 caliber. I have seen too much variance in this sellers market to quote price. except still under $750.

Last year i picked up a 40tsw with the riveted rail. I liked it so I bought another. New Wolff spring kits for both. Grabbed a bunch of mags and went over them as well. Both shoot great. I was bitten hard!

This year my local pusher had 2 5906’s. One with the hooked guard one without. Dang if they both eventually followed me home. Another Wolff order put in. More mags-although these were more expensive.

My pusher now has me at the top of the list if anymore 3rd gens come in. I reload and have a decent supply of components so ammo is not a concern 😎

I seem to remember seeing some nice TSW's at Gander Outdoor for around $425. Guy in front of me was buying one. This was about 3 weeks ago.

I guess I should have added that I paid $400 each for the 4006’s.
The 5906’s were $525 each. Also picking up spare parts as I see them.

Copper Custom Armament is selling them at $550... they were one of the original (first) dealers for the CHP TSW 4006s and the ones they sent out were in great shape.
