Default S&W 4586

Picked up a super clean 4586 for 550 with one mag which is an older 645 mag with metal follower and base plate.
Would have to say it was shot less than 500 rds. Pics to follow soon. Trigger pull feels pretty light so hopefully it's one of the versions with the better trigger. Puts me up to 19 3rd gens now. Could of probably hem hawed down to 5 but for the condition I'm happy for my early dads day gift to myself. Kid 2 will arrive April 20th so hopefully my local dealer can get a cricket in but its a bad year to buy new.

Congratulations on finding such a mint condition 3rd gen.

I'm a little envious, since I'm partial to DAO 3rd gen S&W's myself.

Would of been nice to have the orignal box and paperwork but you take what you can get in this hobby.

Its unusual to see a 4586 in such nice shape. These were marketed only to law-enforcement and security. It wasn't impossible for private individuals to order one through their LGS. Most showed a life in a holster. Mine is a local police department auction when the switched to M&P9's because the delicate officers couldn't handle 45ACP. Anyway... Nice score on the uncommon model.

I have a 4586 that I don't believe was a law enforcement issue. It has no marking to indicate it was.

I also have one with no LE markings . I picked mine up at a show a while back , it was sitting by itself and I felt sorry for it , gave $350 . It's in real good shape , the dealer didn't know what he had and wasn't a S&W guy . I still haven't shot it , I guess I'll take it out one of these days .

I have only one pistol with LE markings.

Practically all of them are, however.

My guess is that most agencies wanted to trade in but were concerned about a crime gun showing up with their name on it, hence the anonymity.

I have 2 4586 both from law enforcement in Jacksonville North Carolina. Neither has department markings. Both like new, one issued to an administrative officer, other to a street Sargeant.

I would have bought at that price and could easily pick up $100-$200 at the next gun show or maybe even the lgs. I have mostly police trade ins and only 1/3 of them are marked. Nice S&W 45 ACP third gens are not easy to find.

Nice buy, I'm not particularly a connoisseur of DAO. But I do have a few myself. My favorite being the Beretta 92D Centurion. The S&W DAO Autos were good guns of their era and while I personally don't own any. I wouldn't turn my nose up at one if I came across one for a good deal.

They're slick, well crafted, and capable guns.

This is true, my "go to" autos are my pair of M4586's, they, and all Third Gen 45 versions are fantastic shooters, and the mid-length barrels carry well.

They are in this pic, hiding in this crowd of Third Gen DAO models...

VERY well hidden! They must be wearing "Paper Towel" camo.

I like any of the 3rd gen 45's myself, but have yet to find one in DOA. Something to go with the 4046 and the 5946 would be absolutely perfect.

Well, driver error. Just now able to post pics again, using the Forum's hosting, had the settings wrong, should be able to see the pics now.
Darn shame Fototime went belly up, lost a few hundred pics from many years of picture taking and hosting.....
