Hi guys,

Many of us have been chasing the magazine bases used by the 4513 TSW for different reasons: some own a 4513 or some others like me, prefer the look and feel of a more "round" magazine base.







However, the magazine base that is easier to find is the newer style:





I understand that currently there is an effort to replicate and produce a new batch of 4513 TSW style bases.

However, there might be an alternative...

Squidsix and I have been trading parts recently. He sent me a bag full of stuff including these (he had been playing with a prototype for his CS40)







These are Kahr P45 extended magazine bases. From the factory they are too tall to fit...also the Kahr mag is a bit shorter, and there isn't a flush fit...

But...







I used a milling machine, but these could be altered with a dremel and other hand tools...







The fit is almost perfect (fit is tight very tight, no movement whatsoever)... the only issue now is that the magazine base retention plate does not coincide with the magazine base hole...

I machined (to the best of my beginners abilities) a prototype...







far from prefect but...it works...

So, this could be an option...perhaps there is a mag retention plate out there that can be used...any ideas on how to solve this issue are welcomed

Instead of fabricating a new butt plate catch, wouldn't it have been easier to drill a new, relocated hole in the Kahr butt plate?

I haven't thought about it...I don't know where Squid got them...but I checked the Kahr site and thy run about $8 each + shipping...but I guess we have to find a solution for the retaining plate first...I will keep you posted....

Thought about drilling an extra hole...but I had 2 issues

1) wouldn't look nice (you know me John )

2) the space between the 2 holes is tiny, so I had concerns about the resistance of the plastic...



what I machined was the a retaining plate out of aluminum...I was in a rush, but was dying to see if it would work. I want to try to machine it out of plastic or maybe a thin steel plate what I can silver solder a steel knob...not sure yet...

Your work is excellent.
Kahr sells the base retention plates too, and they are easy to trim with scissors.

Umm what? “Beginner ability” ???? Well for sure I do understand your modesty. But I think that anyone that follows what you have done and are still doing would seriously question your self evaluated level of beginner.

Found some hard plastic at a local supplier (ALRO), bought some leftovers for $3.

Machining it was a pain in the neck...took me a long time

A made a couple of mistakes at the end...but it is almost there...

Need to make some other experiments....

My friend Heymatt stopped by to check barrel fitment of his M4513 TSW (more on that on his thread)

I took the opportunity to test the kahr base on his gun...


fits great...!!!


Kahr base is a tad shorter, so there is a bit of a gap at the end...


height is the same as the TSW base




base is also slimmer...so there are gaps on the side...but that does not bother me...



I think this is an option...only issue is making the retention plates is a pain in the neck...

PS: fallen in love with the M4513 TSW...maybe I need to get one...

What's the size of the catch hole of the P45 mag base extended ?

the diameter of the hole in the kahr base is 0.200 inches

the diagonal of the square on the mag catch bases that I made is 0.194 - 0.195

Lego blocks have a .189" locking stud/receptacle. Look at Lego 'plates'.

Could you use a plug cutter tip to get the round nub, then mill around it for a flat surface?

great idea...never thought about it...I just "kidnapped" a lego base from my youngest and will try to modify it when I have some spare time... thank you...

also, I have been browsing kahr website...and I think their mag lock bases could be a perfect fit...but they are $8.80 each + $8.80 for the base + shipping...

not an inexpensive proposition...but nevertheless an alternative...

Get yourself a 4513TSW guzzitaco! Then you can manufacture sleeves to enable us to use the 7-round mags. Regards 18DAI

yes, I guess I should start looking for one...I really like it...

Also, maybe by using the kahr bases unaltered, we could use 7 round mags and have the proper fit and look.
