Default Smith & Wesson m952

Hi 😊

Could anybody be helpful in regards to reassembly of the m952. I'm in doubt about the recoil spring and the rod or whatever you call it. Upon inserting the rod into the little radial cut. Is the flat side of the bushing or the round side of the bushing supposed to be placed in the radial cut? Hope it makes sense. Thanks in advance.

The round side should be nestled in to the radial cut. This allows just enough clearance to slip past the end of the dust cover. This slight modification is not on every PC pistol, it is only on the pistols that need that slight clearance.

Once the guide rod is in place and the pistol properly assembled, it actually does not matter how the rod and that flat part is clocked.

It only needs to be aligned properly for assembly/field strip.

What sevens says make sense. There is really nothing to hold that rod in place once the gun is fired. Just never knew why they did that, now I do.

Yep, it’s only to get clearance from the dust cover when you angle the guide rod to install or remove it.

“Dust cover” is a curious term. Talking about the slide, muzzle end, under the muzzle itself where the forward end of the guide rod nestles. Dust cover is a strange term for this, IMO, but that seems to be what folks call it.
