Sounds like you need more than one gun. Nothing wrong with an M&P in 357sig.

I would also highly recommend a 4506.

I am one that has a long time love affair with the 4506. Unless you are fairly large, it is not the best concealed carry type pistol. You might look at the 4516 or even the Chief Special in 45 ACP.

I now carry a M&P in 45 ACP as my duty sidearm. It is a great gun but also is not the best concealed carry pistol.

I carry as my primary off duty sidearm, a Glock 32 compact version in 357 Sig. I am pleased with it, having never malfuntioned, most reliable, easily concealable, and for me - dead on. I feel very comfortable with both sidearms.

There are a number of quality semi autos for you to choose from.

My recommendation is take your time, explore the field, find which one best fits you, that you can hit with, and then practice, practice, and practice.

You may go through one or six until you find the right one but the joy is in the quest.

Best of luck.

Everyone needs a good 1911 so go get it now or you will just have to get one later.

+1. Not a fan of the .357 SIG or .40 and have shot plenty of both. Prefer a .230 gr. JHP SGD any day of the week. If you buy the 1911 practice like crazy with it as you HAVE to use that thumb safety. Best weapon for SD IMO. I'm a Springfield Armory fan. Buy the Mil-Spec and you'll be well protected.

I like my M&P in .40S&W. Handles the recoil very well.
