Rimfire Central is the only website that has a small serial# chart for the Model 41. My Standard Catalog of S&W shows that TBY probably dates to about 1988.

Smith & Wesson kinda sorta mostly shipped their pistols in alphabetical order but there are many known exceptions. The TBx prefix serial numbers started in 1987 and in 1988 they began using the TCx numbers. Most likely your M41 is from 1988 as 824tsv had stated.
But it is known that the TBZ series was shipped in 1990. That’s the closest known to your pistol. Go figure!
Only a history letter will tell you the exact shipping date but you will have to decide if it’s worth the cost.
In the meantime, enjoy your model 41!

Thanks for the replies guys. Someone looked at my S&W 41 box and saw Spec. Ord. 9319.
They are telling me my model 41 was built on the 319th day of 1989, November 15, 1989.
Have you guys ever heard or translated this Spec. Ord. 9319 on the box end as this person did?
Thanks in advance.

Yes; actually the Special Order Code in that era indicated the day the gun was packed for shipping, but you can imagine how it may not have left the factory that exact day.

Thank you.
Was it a Special Order or did S&W put that on every box during that time period?

Usually it was the packing date but sometimes it did indicate a special order. If the last three digits are more than 366 that is a clue.

That would have been me, you’re welcome.
(So you didn’t believe me? )
By the way if you are going to cover the serial number, you have to do it under the bar code as well
