Default CS40 Slide Project MkI & MkII (update Jan 2022)

Hi guys,

my friend 4T5GUY (Jim) sent me a spare CS40 slide to do some work on it...

Stainless CS40 slide, "ambi" safety, steel rear sight

some dings on the front...

some dings on the back...

So, I took it apart..

a bit of rust here...

a bit of rust there...

came apart easily...

started to fix the business end...

fixed it as much as possible, without changing the profile of the slide.

fixed the rear end...no more dings here...

took some measurements...

...and made a plan

decided to make a test on a piece of plastic (just in case )

and off we go...

after both sides were completed...we were right on target...

Sorry no pics erasing the milling marks...forgot to take them...

Jim, found a hand model, but she wasn't to happy with the job...so went back to my ugly hands...

after the initial blast...

So, decided to brush the flats and then took some pics...

Froggie this pic is for you...(as you suggested in the previous thread)

More to come...

Well it looks like it’s not going to be my “spare” CS40 slide any longer. I’m glad I listened to most suggestions here that I keep it.

It came out perfect and I can’t stop grinning and definitely not just because of your jokes.

I look forward to seeing it on one of my CS40’s, (or 45,) frames. I’ll post some weight pictures showing the difference from a stock slide but not till I get the wonderful grip I requested from “TercGen.”

Thanks for the beautiful job, I really appreciate you doing this for me.

Jim

Awesome work Guzzi!

4T5Guy - a Chief’s Special with Guzitaco’s PC slide cuts and TercGen grips is pretty special indeed! I’m jealous!

Nice work yet again, Guzzi!

It seems the old PC slide cut has become your "signature".

Maybe it's time we rename it, "The Guzzi Scallop".

The CS line of S&W semi-auto metal receiver pistols always struck me as functional, reliable, but visually about as exciting as a blank sheet of copier paper. Guzzitaco has changed that!

Great job! Of course you're not going to do all that work on the slide and then just slap it on the factory frame, are you? What's the plan for that?

Oh no, of course not.

Once I get it back I’ll take my time admiring it, hold it for a while. Appreciate its new lines and weight reduction. Then when it’s time I’ll put some grease in just the right places and ease it on a frame. A little bit at a time. (No slapping.)

I’ll then cycle it a few times slowly just to get things sliding nicely. After everything is perfect I’ll take it to the range and run it.

Wow I think I’ve read “JohnHL’s” CS story too many times.

Thanks a lot for your kind comments...

"Guzzi Scallop" it is from now on John...

So, a bit more of what was done to complete the project.

the black oxide coating on the safety/decocker was faded...

I decided to test a product from EPI that has great review...not sure about the longevity of it...

I cut a U notch on the rear slide (BMCM's mod) and brushed the extractor. Also retouched the bluing on the sights and eliminated the pesky white dots. Sorry no pics...

After all was done...I put it together and took some pics...

Slide is on its way to Jim...I hope he likes it...

Will be waiting for some pics of the complete pistol and a range test...

Ok this is funny, but he makes a good point. If your CS40’s frame looks anything like my CS9, it’s functional but with 20+ years of honest wear. Are you going to do anything to make the frame look nicer? Re-anodize? Cerokoate? Rattle can? That slide looks new and amazing but it will make an old frame look kinda meh by comparison.

Default Here we go again !!!

Hi guys,
got another CS40 slide to work on. Again this is a spare slide, and the original one will remain untouched...

The owner chose a LPA rear sight and finish the safety in stainless steel...I like the combination...

hope you guys like it...
Guzzi

I can't wait to get it home . I was going to use it for my 10mm barrel , but was warned that with the metal taken off that might not be a good idea . I'll post some pics when I get with my CS40 , nib , which I found a while back . It's all black while my other is the two tone . I'm thinking the new slide with the black frame will look like a million dollars .

I sure think so but it’ll look just as superb on a silver frame.

You’ve most likely already gone the TercGen “route” but if you haven’t you should. With “guzzitaco’s” slide mods and upgrades,“TercGen’s” grip mod and a few 4513TSW 6 rnd mag base/buttplates a CS40, (or 45,) becomes a totally different little pistol. Not only esthetically pleasing but more practical.

I'll have to look in to his grips . Seeing as I have a CS9 , 2 CS40's and a CS45 it may cost me . I'll get ahold of him and start with one of my CS40's . My CS45 wears a set of KSD grips which I really like , so I might leave them in place .

Yep the KSD’s look and actually feel great, but for me they’re still too “chunky”. I don’t plan on replacing them though.

Although I don’t HAVE to run a CS40 top end on the CS45 anymore it’s still a cool option. Putting “guzzitaco’s” slide on it just takes it to another level.
