1006 4506 Magazines
I can't find magazines anywhere. I know ProMag makes 4506 mags, are they any good? Are there any other magazines (Ruger) that could be reworked to fit?

Welcome to the forum. You might some for sale in our forum classifieds. Other option are guns shows, or the auction sites. Expect to pay a significant premium at this time.

I bought a few of the 4506 promags, both the 8-round and the extended 10-round ones and they all had issues at first on my 4566TSW. They'd stovepipe and in a couple of cases they were actually so out of spec the trigger wouldn't actually work properly in DA I assume from them rubbing up on the drawbar. I warrantied them and the 10-rounders I have now have worked for a couple hundred rounds now without issues, but I wouldn't trust them until I've put hundreds more through.

Are you asking about 45XX-series mags or 10XX-series mags?
I've got three NIB (i.e., original packaging) S&W 10mm mags.
9-rd capacity, with the white followers which were the last upgrade in the series and are preferred by 10mm fans.
$175.00 per, ...
or all three for $450.00.

Gee, what a deal. That's the reason I'm looking for something else to fit. Don't know why Smith and Wesson won't manufacture these again with the money they'd make.

I have a 4506 and a 745 - mags are interchangeable, yes?
I hesitate to ever say OK to ProMag, but having tweaked the feed lips of many High Standards using a tool for the purpose, a little work can help them out.

Not too long ago one could still find the individual parts to assemble a 1006 magazine but unfortunately, Numrich sold out of the tubes.

I bought four mag tubes, springs, followers and the bases from them two years ago today. All told it cost me $235. As they were out of the base plate catch I had to overpay on eBay for those. Not long after Numrich had complete magazines up for around $50 each.
I thought about buying more but I didn't. I could kick myself for not assembling more or picking up the used magazines as I knew that they would disappear eventually. Life happens and I bought other things including more third gens! At least I have four basically new magazines for my 1076.

I got my 645/4506 mags on eBay, but I got lucky and got mine with good "buy it now" prices. Expect to pay at least $50 for 645/4506 mags and $75+ for 1006 mags these days.

Just got back from the range with a 4506. At one point, I glanced down at the mags on the bench and reflected that I'm glad I accumulated 30+ when they were $30-$40.

LOL! ... Ah yeah, no.
Only if those $75 mags are beat to *****.
Decent to LNIB 10XX-series mags are $100-$150+, IF you can even find them.
There might be the rare exception where you luck out and find a seller who doesn't know the S&W 10XX market, but given the present internet age of instant information with 2-3 minutes of Google-fu, I wouldn't count on it.

I don't need collector pieces, just something to shoot. I saw some Ruger mags (345?) that looked pretty close, thats why I wondered if there's anything else that might fit. I have ZERO 1006 mags, so my dream gun I finally tracked down is an awkward single shot. My 4506 has one magazine, I'll probably try to find one extra and maybe get a few ProMags and hope they work or bend and tweak until they do.

My recommendation is to do what I have been doing for years.
Go to the oldest local small shops within 100 miles of your home.
Say “you got a bucket full of old magazines somewhere in here?”
And commence your search. I found hundreds of hard to find parts and pieces and magazines this way, often for next to nothing.
It pays off big time.

They are out there but you will have to search for them and when you find any be prepared to buy them, even if they might be a little more expensive then you would like.

I found four at a gun show yesterday, it was a small show in rural Missouri. I don’t think the kind old seller knew what he had. I bought all four at 32 bucks each.
Two weeks prior I bought five at a gun show in Oklahoma for 240. total.
I have been on quite a lucky streak.

There is still a 645 mag for sale in the Classifieds. IDK if that works in a 4506.

Yeah, that is lucky. Quite a steal in fact.
No way you'd have gotten those mags for that pricing on the auction sites.

I wish I'd known the mag situation before I got these. I bought the 4506 to maybe have the mag for the 1006 I bought. Pawnshop said it came to them that way is why I got it so cheap, guy probably sold the magazines for more than he had in the gun and then practically gave the pistol away.

Correct.
The road to happy 3rd Gen ownership always starts with the mags, ... and thus the all-important question of how many mags come with a particular gun.
Mostly it's a case of 'right place, right time' when the opportunity suddenly appears to buy one.

Maybe I'm just being inpatient, I'm used to 1911s and Beretta 92s where I can search through the bargain bin and find a few. I need at least one 10mm magazine since I don't have any. After that a spare for each and I'm set unless I want to start carrying it. Then it would be the 45 since I don't ever see me acquiring half a dozen 1006 mags.

S&W OEM pistol magazines

Answer: Triple K magazines Dan Diego, California
Number 1515M **note, I did NOT say 1514M**
Smith & Wesson
4516 **yep, both 1514M (7rd) AND 1515M (8rd) say 4516
overlook this detail. Order 1515M 8RD 45 ACP and you have a match.
I've picked up two. Let me see if I can photo against the various 4506 S&W mags.

I would test Triple K magazines thoroughly before considering them for serious use purposes. Triple K magazines of the past often had thin magazine bodies that could cause issues when fully loaded. Maybe they worked out those issues, I don't know.

Yep, right up there with ProMag quality-wise.
Much like Lester's Ammunition, they 'usually' work ... except when they don't.
I'd mark those on the mag body somewhere: ' For range-use ONLY.'

Reasons I do not have a Bren Ten:
1. The pistols were way over my budget when they were new.
2. The pistols are way over my budget today as collectible firearms.
3. The magazines were expensive when new, if you could ever find one.
4. The magazines are very, very expensive if you find one today.

Bought 2 4506 mags last week at a gun show. Smith brand. One with black plastic floor plate and one all stainless like new for 60 bucks. You just have to look. Gun shows are the best places to find stuff.
