Update! Preban 4006 magazines

I recently picked up 3 older 4006 magazines with yellow followers and no AccuGuide markings. 2 of the 3 have a different floorplate I haven't seen before. They have no markings on front or back. Any thoughts? I was finally able to get both disassembled ok.

For added intrigue, the 2 with the non-standard floorplates have a "+" at the bottom front, and the other has "lll". The blue follower AccuGuide magazines I looked at didn't have either markings.

C'mon, Forum! You even had an extra hour to check your Preban mags! Lol. I've never seen this type of floorplate and since the 5900 series guns and mags came first, I doubt these would be some kind of factory prototype.

Here, I'll sweeten the pot with a few pics of the 4006. I ended up putting on a curved grip and lanyard loop. The CHP models are getting harder to find, and of course the prices have gone up.

I believe that is an aftermarket replacement mag bottom. I ordered a couple mags myself for my 4006 and they had those. Pretty sure they were LE trade ins. Guessing the factory mags bases were damaged and the sales company installed those as a cheap replacement to save on cost. You can still find factory bases if you look in the right places and replace them if you like. They do work just fine though.

By the way, Pre-ban means nothing today. The "ban" was for 10 years from 94 to 2004 and therefore has no meaning today.

Those base plates were in fact "part" of an aftermarket magazine system, using a base to facilitate using a large 9mm auto magazine with a compact model auto.
See the picture below, you can make out that base plate on the full size mag on the right, this would allow using it with a compact 9mm (example 6946) with a mag from a 5906.

Going from memory I believe this was called a PGS grip adapter.

That's what they look like to me, too. I bought some in the Classifieds here, about a year ago.

Mine is called the "Grip Plus 2 Magazine Adapter" made by Precision Gun Specialties, Michigan. (a.k.a. PGS Adapter) Looks like the OP has the baseplate that locks it in place, but not the other part.

You guys are great! Many thanks. I'm pretty sure I have a spare floorplate or two in my parts stash. I bought 3 online but pic only showed the 1 mag that had the original installed.
I say "preban" just to help date them. Unfortunately from what I've read here, members who live in certain "Moonbat" states are still dealing with that. Basically they can only have full capacity magazines if made before 1994. Since these have yellow followers and no Accu-guide markings they very likely predate 94 and are preferred by them. If I'm mistaken please let me know.
Fwiw I just found a 4026 (91-93) with 1 mag this morning so these mags will be correct era (yes I'm weird that way) lol. Will start a new thread once it arrives

The War Dept and I took a long weekend away and of course I ended up at a gun shop or two. Would you believe I found these while looking through the used magazines?!? At $30 for the pair I couldn't go wrong.

So, looks like I now have 2 complete PGS Adapters! Since my only compact is a 669, I'll be putting them on two of my 5900-series magazines. I can then move those 3rd gen floorplates to the 4006 mags in my first post. Then, just to be consistent I can replace these metal 59-series floorplates with the plastic 3rd gen spares in my stash. I think I've got that straight, good gravy what a juggling act. Thanks again to all!

Finally got around to taking a pic of the finished product. The adapter doesn't add much length but sure makes for a more comfortable grip in the Gen 2 pistol. I was thinking that they were a flexible rubber but they're hard plastic. Either way a great design and I appreciate everyone's input.

Now, get yourself a soldering iron with a fine tip, tape off an area around the front of that extension you want to work on and stipple it lightly to give it a sandpaper grip. Get the iron good and hot and just touch the surface as you work, doesn't take much. You can thank me later.
