Default S&W's best woods carry 22 rim-fire ever made.

My 2206 6" Target model. Extremely accurate and runs like Swiss watch.

Never could get into two-tone cars or guns.

I'm really a revolver guy, but I've had this pre 39 since 1974. I bought it from Jack Roys in Hamtramck Michigan after Jack took it in from a man who was moving back to Poland. I paid $90 for it back then which was actually a lot to a someone making $4.25 per hour. Jack let me do a layaway on it.
The serial number is 1431. The pre 39s started production at number 1001 for reasons I never understand. It was shipped on 2-7-1956 to Harvan Sporting Goods in New York City, New York.

Different strokes for different folks, be a dull place if we all liked the same thing.

Thought several times about buying one just because of the price for well made gun with excellent service and warranty.

But no 45ACP or 10mm.

Interesting to see the early (pre) 39! The open magazine and shorter decocker lever caught my eye.

I went bonkers and bought two 39s at a gun show this weekend; a series one Model 39, and a Model 39-2. Another vendor there had two magazines with the S & W stamp on the baseplate. The guns appear to be 80% plus condition.

Both shoot like nobody's business and have glassy smooth actions. They eagerly consume JHPs and truncated ball. I think I could hide them better than my Glock 26 when I'm CCW.

Default More old autos

Heres another old 39 that was presented to then Detroit Police Commisioner, Johannes Spreen, when he retired in 1970.

The model 59 no dash looks cool with modified 39 grips on it.

Then there's those model 46s. Almost always find them in mint condition.

Default Model 39 first edition (I guess)

A nice shooter and shows very little wear. I am partial to the older Smiths. Nice and skinny for concealed carry. It's a gun show rescue.

Here's one of the 5946 you're likely all sick of reading about with my TLR-1 that usually resides on my Glock 17:

My first but not my last 3rd gen S&W auto. This is my 1006 10mm. For those times when I need to shoot bad guys hiding behind cars. :-)

My two "Smitties". The older 39 at the top the 39-2 below. (Still trying to learn why the 39's hammer spur has a hole in it-theories vary...)

Depending on when or where, the 39 is home defense or concealed, or a J-frame 642 gets dropped into a pocket.

I have the Safariland holster on the way. Yep, they still seem to make one for the old 39.

I'm new here with my latest gun show find 5906. I love it, Does anybody know what age this is? Serial # begins with a TEU. DA pull is very smooth. SA is a bit sloppy, but usable. It is also equiped with night sights.

Well as a long time lurker and just really getting into posting on this site I'm ashamed of my lone S&W 5906. So embarrassed that I won't post a pic. I got it for $300 as it is a police trade in locally here in MO. It honestly looks terrible compared to the beautiful ones posted here. The grips need replaced and it has shiny spots all over the slide, exactly where the duty holster rubbed on it hundreds if not thousands of times.

I'm not worried about fixing the polished spots and I've already located replacement grips from a member here. It's a house gun, looks don't matter and I don't have enough money to be considered a true "collector."

All that being said; when I disassembled it I found it to be simply the cleanest semi auto pistol I have ever purchased. Obviously the carry and duty wear is greatly exaggerated against the usage wear which is more important.

Thanks for the gun porn folks, love it. And because of what I've read here I will be looking for a Sigma.

We'll, I have less shame. Here is my 4043 that I just picked up. It has a few battle scars, but like yours, is very clean and tight internally. These things are cheap these days and they are awesome weapons. Post your pic. Schlep guns are cool too!
