Very nice...that's how it should be...build them how you want them. Is that a 669 frame and what slide is on it?

It is essentially an early 39 slide on a 639 frame. This entailed eliminating the firing pin safety lever and fashioning a noninterfering spacer as a substitute for it. A 39 sear release lever then had to be thinned down so that it could be installed beside the spacer and function as it should. The photos are not quite as good as I would like, in that they make the frame appear as if it has been bead blasted, but in fact it still bears its original brushed and somewhat shiny finish on the sides.
The rear sight is from MMC. The barrel is teflon coated. The backstrap is a steel one for a Model 52, but I removed the protruding tab at its base. The hammer is from a compact version, but I don't recall precisely which one. I opted for a full barrel bushing. I'm thinking I might install a blued recoil spring guide (again, I've waffled on that).
This pistol has worn various stocks along the way, the oversized, finger groove design pictured being just the most recent, although they feel really good and probably aren't coming off anytime soon.

My only two S&W semi-autos so far,
I LOVE them and can't wait to get a 1006 and more
the 5906 was my first cartridge-firing handgun, cap n ball guns were all I owned before it was given to me from a great family member. The SW1911 was my first modern firearm purchase (all cap n ball before it), and it was NIB, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, and could hardly believe my eyes!
the SW1911 is ltd edition, 1 of 231

Here is a quick shot of my Smith "collection". The Model 59 had a hard life before I got it, but still shoots well. Owned the 659 since new and picked up the Model 41 years ago, had no idea what it was worth until recently. Love shooting it. Got others but not Smiths.

I call them Messrs Smith and Wesson
1006 and 1066.
I'm yet to shoot them.

Get with the program, they were meant to be shot! They need to be fed a heathy diet real 10mm ammo!
BTW, the rear sight on that 1006 is a little different...is that an aftermarket? It looks simular to an adjustible sight cut short.

It is an MMC sight. They were put on by the friend that owned this gun before me.
They appear similar to S&W sights!
I'm not sure of his reasons. I'll have to ask.
UPDATE: The rear sight is 0601581 stainless Steel Red MMC S&W 45/10m.
My buddy said he put these on because he wanted adjustable.

That one is the one which slides into the dovetail slot as opposed to the recessed flat top of the S&W1006 w/adjustible with the protective wings. MMC may have produced both styles...

I had a 4586, 4563, and 4043 but they were stolen some months ago. I replaced them with the two shown, that I found NIB at a small dealer in MA. They are a 457S and CS45.

Just joined the ranks of the S&W Semi-Auto Club. I have been looking for either a 1066 or 1076 for many years and came upon this one completely by accident. This 1066 came with the original box and unfiled paperwork as well two extra brand new mags. I got it in and immediately left the office and headed to the range to find out what I had. WOW I am impressed. I have a Wilson Combat Professional, a four inch 1911, my favorite carry weapon, and this gun can shoot side by side with at 1/3 the cost. It will definately find time on my hip in the future.

Mike1957, which sight is that on your 1006? I looks to be an adjustible type.
