Buck i actually just logged on to the forum to ask that question. I am saving a spot in the safe for one of these and I have seen some full size models with the safety no sign of the safety compact here in CT. I actually passed on a Beretta Px4 sub compact today becuase of the M&P safety model. Don't know about the magazine disconnect.

I'd suggest going to S&W's site and checking through their technical spec's listings for the M&P line.
WELCOME!

First, welcome to the forum, Buckwacker!

Second, you've probably already found this page, but Justin Case, hear you go: M&Ps, click here

I've never seen a compact with a manual thumb safety, and I'm pretty sure they don't have a mag disconnect either. I don't see it in the specs, and I've actually never tried it.

Hi reerc I held a .40 today with a thumb safety. It felt really good and it also had the magazine disconnect as well. I could have bought it for the same price as the 9mm but of course they didn't have any 9mm (sold out)! I would like the 9mm because of the cheaper price of ammo. I checked out your link and saw that they didn't have any thumb safety's! maybe this is a brand new option! Thanks

here we are, compacts with thumb safeties: clickie

Sorry 'bout that, I sent the link to the LEO models.

Sure looks like a lot of models and variations available now. When I bought mine, there were only "big ones" and "little ones."

Happy shopping, I hope you find what you're looking for, the M&P seems to be a winner.

Thanks Lonny & reerc I checked new products and reece's link and found the thumb safety compacts.
Does anyone know the technical name for the safety feature with a bullet in the chamber and the magazine removed the gun won't fire? I looked up the Tech Specs but didn't see anything for this feature. Thanks

I do not think that combination of features is a standard production item, however, you could get one of the new thumb safety models and send it back and have the mag safety put in.

Hey Gang, Just got a reply from Smith & Wesson.
You can get a thumb safety on a 9mm Compact but not a Magazine safety and a magazine safety cannot be installed on one if you send it in. Oh Well! Now we know.
