Model 422 needs to be refinished
I bought a model 422 that has had the finish completely removed.
it appears to have been polished to look like stainless steal.
Any ideas on getting the original finish re-applied?
Thanks, Dan

422 has a metal slide and rest is aluminum-ish alloy, (not quite sure about alloy proportion), but u need to blued slide and barrel, and anodized rest, my point here is u need 2 different processes.

The original finish was probably some form of anodizing on the frame, another finish (blue? Melonite?) on the steel parts. You might check with various refinishing companies, I used to have a list but if I've still got it, the location is uncertain. I do recall an outfit named Checkmate did refinishing, but no idea if they do anodizing.
Or, you could go with some form of hard chrome. There's Armoloy and other outfits (like Robar) that have proprietary processes.

The factory does/did offer refinishing of alloy frame pistols so you may ask them first?
A hard chrome job would be tempting since the metalwork is already bare, and may make the job a little easier. Good luck with your decision.

My 442 has some sort of black finish on it. I do believe that I've also seen some silver version too.
If I shift mine around in the light I can see a slight difference in the finish of the cylinder, barrel, and frame. Nothing to kick it out of bed or anything but it poses a challenge in finishing different metals to match.
The factory might be the best option.
I'm invested in Armoloy myself but they won't refinish alloy, only steel.
I had a Sig 1911 that had a DLC (diamond like coating) finish. Everything matched and seemed to be pretty durable.
Cerekote is another option. I had a pistol that someone upstream had a blue cerakote finish done on. It worked as long as I had it.

Ingramite hit the point I was going to make but I’d like to reiterate that cerokote is probably the least expensive option and it will be more than adequate for a little .22 plinker. You could go black or some variant of dark blue to look original-ish, or go crazy and do whatever. Storm trooper white. Mauve. Idk. The world’s your oyster.

Come to think of it, a strange color might help you beat a bogus brandishing complaint. "Ask them what color my gun is."

A little GB find? I think I saw that one...
You don't want the factory finish, find someone to apply a coating. I had Cerakote applied to this one.
Otherwise for just a plinker I would media blast it and keep it silver, people pay a premium for a 622 that is just a 422 with no finish on it.
