What is this line for? (M41 ??)
There is what appears to be an index line on the left side only of the barrel of my M41. What was it supposed to index? The mark is 1.1" from the muzzle. There are also a single groove on either side of the barrel, in the slim portion, which I assume would be to attach weights, maybe? The pistol is a 1985 manufacture.

It's a witness line for the optional weights, so you can experiment with different placements, and have a reference point of return.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking. Are weights for this era pistol hard to find? The earlier models, that had muzzle extensions, compensators, etc. had them, but all that seemed to go away in the late 70's. It's not that I need them, but they'd be nice to add to the package. I think the 7" barrel is almost perfectly balanced for me.

Ken there are 2 different weight sets for the model 41. Screw in weights and the Olympic weight set which corresponds with that mark.

Olympic Counterweights
Here's a pic of mine. The last set I saw for sale was an all steel set a few years ago and it sold in the $500 range without the box and allen wrench. The top mount could be purchased in aluminum by itself but they are seldom seen.
