Decided to try the new CSX pistol in spite of some of the U-tube and negative online posts. Found one at one of the LGS for $499.00 plus 6% tax. Bought it.
Range time today, I fired 110 rounds thru it with NO malfunctions. 100 of these rounds were 124gr home loads and the last 10 were Hornady Critical Defense. I did not experience the "false" reset, nor did I have any issues with the magazines. I do prefer the 12 round mag, and will obtain several extras in the future. All rounds were fired at paper plates out at 10 yards. Accuracy is better that I expected.
My only complaint is the "ambi" safety. I am right handed and when I have a good firing grip on the gun and use my thumb to take the safety off, the "ambi" side will pinch a part of my hand. If I click the safety off before I have a good firing grip, this does not happen.
If the gun remains reliable for another 300 or so rounds, I will look into eliminating or modifing the ambi safety and also install some night sights.
This may replace my J-frame (since 1980) as my EDC. Time will tell.

Thanks for the report. The online stuff makes this one a tough call for me. One thing that bothers me is that the trigger seems a universal “meh”, when we’ve known how to do superb SA triggers for a long long time. Wondering if the usual sources are working on making it better...

The capacity, width, and SA really puts this in a class of 1.

I just took my new CSX on a 2 week vacation. Love it, I just got an Urban Carry holster for it. It has the spare mag in front. Feels great. The one thing I can't get over is how small it is but feels and handles like a much bigger pistol. A little snappy on the recoil but, after having carried and shot the 45 and 40, it is nothing I can't handle. I picked up 2-12 round mags for it. Carrying Golden Sabers in it.

No regrets buying it. My only regret is showing it to my wife, she now wants it.

The consistent complaints that I have read about are the "gritty trigger" and less than stellar accuracy, by all accounts a good all-around EDC pistol. The weight, reliability, recoil and grip is supposed to be relatively impressive. I would like to try one eventually.

I have 1400 rounds thru mine now. I have really been impressed. I am really hoping that Apex or one of the other aftermarket folks make a nice trigger for it, and then it will be the perfect “double stack” 9mm SA carry pistol.

Mine has been excellent at the range. Perfect function and quite accurate. The only feature that I'm not impressed with is the floppy "Magazine Gasket" on the 12-round magazine. I can't help but think that there should have been some way to do better from a design standpoint on such a quality gun. If you click on the photos, you should be able to enlarge the photos enough to view my "fix" for the "Gasket"; Super Glue!

Unfortunately, if you ever need to take the magazine apart, you are going to have a hell of a time pulling that apart. I also find it a little weird, kinda like an afterthought. I'll live with it.

Lots of people here have complained about the trigger. Tell me, when the poop hits the fan, do you think you will notice how smooth the trigger is? Somehow I doubt it. I have never been bothered by a trigger. Let's face it, unless you are a competition shooter, you will never notice it.

The "gritty trigger" is easily fixed by carefully stoneing the hammer hooks that engage the sear. The sear is very smooth as is but the hammer hooks are very rough...There is NO need to reduce the engagement length..just smooth out the rough machining marks on the hammer hooks. Also the hammer hook engagement surface has a little elevated "pad" in the middle..I have no idea why..It took some effort to smooth the surface of this "pad" out but now there is NO GRIT. The trigger is still a little heavy but breaks very clean. This gun is designed to operate within the "21 foot rule" and fulfils that requirement nicely.

I looked at one the other day and plan to rent one next trip to the range. The blade "safety" in the trigger seemed flimsy. Couldn't tell if it was thin plastic or a metal foil, but it sure flexed side to side. It reminded me of the tabs they use to block the batteries in electronic devices before purchase. If they are lasting 400 rounds they must be sturdier than they look.

Ive found that talon grips make the gun even better. I’ve now super glued three 12 round mags. I literally threw the 10 rounder in the trash can. It was terrible.

Here’s a question for y’all,

Does anyone know what sights can be used to replace the stock 3 dot ones? Like are they the same as sights on a shield?

The front is the same as the shield. The rear is unique. I have not found a suitable rear for it, so I just blackened the dots in the rear sight and installed an Ameriglo front.

I have a Dawson FO front sight on mine right now that is for a M+P. I think the rear cut in the same as the M+P but an M+P sight would overhang the slide on the rear.

It should come out right to left, and in left to right.

Thanks for the help, fellas. I went with Nightfision front sight (simply the best iron sight company around) from an M&P. It went right in with no problem and look amazing. Now for those rear sights….

Not the shield. Just regular M&P. Although I’ve heard the sight for the shield would work, I went with the regular M&P sight and verified it’s a perfect fit.

I have Nightfision sights on darn near all my handguns. Their stealth sights are awesome for optic mounted handguns.

It interesting you say the replacement sight as not for the Shield. S&W emailed thier response saying to use a Shield front sight.

Not to hijack/drift the post, but any ideas what the "next gen" CSX could be like. I'm sure S&W has a roadmap for it.

Probably a .380 and/or a .45 ACP. They'd have to scale up the frame for the latter. The .380 could be done on the existing frame so it may well be the next version IMO.

I've got to say I was pretty excited to see a new metal-frame S&W when they were first announced. But when I saw one in person, the excitement kinda drifted away. As a fan of the 3rd Gen semi-autos, the CSX just didn't peg the meter the way a nice, clean 3913 or 4513TSW does, so I'm afraid I'll have to pass - and for some reason, that bothers me a little. Maybe it's because I hate unrequited love.

You hit the trigger issue right on the head!! Having been in two armed confrontations during my law enforcement career, I can tell you that under stress, all that "Gritty trigger" and "False reset" effecting your ability to defend yourself is a load of bovine feces!! This was never designed to be a competition target pistol. It was designed to be a defensive pistol. reliable, and compact. It always amazes me how people want to take a hammer and turn it into a precision torque wrench. If you want a target pistol buy one, if you want a great reliable defensive pistol, buy a CSX.

What I said was I heard the shield sight WOULD WORK but the one I ordered was for a regular M&P and it’s a perfect fit.

If one was looking to order from Nightfision- they’d be faced with a decision between sights for Shields and sights for M&Ps. I chose M&P, which is the sight in the attached picture.

Maybe they’ll both fit ?

I assume they will remove the plastic front grip strap insert and just texture that part of the frame. Also I bet we see and optics ready slide.
