Hi all. New to the forum.

I am considering the purchase of a SW99C in 9mm. It has the 'AS' trigger, which is the double action / single action variety with a decocker. I currently own a full size Walther P99 9mm with the AS trigger and love it.

Of course, my preference would be a P99C to match up with my current Walther, but they are essentially non existent and more expensive.

I think the SW99C would be a great pistol, but wanted to seek out opinions. I know that the frame is Walther and the Slide is S&W, so it is not 'just' a rebranded Walther.

How are these pistols in terms of reliability and how do you feel they would carry? Also, what is a fair price?

By all accounts the SW99s are just as reliable as their Walther counterparts, and the lifetime S&W warranty is an added bonus. The SW99s got a bad rap because of the SW99NJs that the NJ State Police had which had some issues, but they are solid pistols. There are a lot of LE trade-ins out there right now too because S&W is being so aggressive in selling the M&P.

I carry my full size SW99 everyday. Its a great gun, very reliable, and accurate. If you like your P99, you will like a SW99.

I own a Walther P99c and have for years. Absolutely my favorite 9mm along with it's full size brother. Had the S&W and it's just as good. I just prefer the full German made versions. Very lightweight, handles 127+P Federal HST without an issue and I have also shot Ranger 115+P+ with no problems. Fantastic gun. The NJSP problems were there own doing as they spec'd the guns differently than stock and could not get them to run right. Completely ignored the S&W engineers. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Also, Glock 26/27 holsters fit like a glove and are much easier to find. NIB, you can expect to pay $550 for a Walther and maybe $450-$475 for the SW99, used I have seen them for about $350 and there worth every penny. The AS trigger is a traditional double action with the first shot in double at approx 9 pounds but the second in single is maybe 5 so there is a big difference. Mags are easy to find and thru CDNN run approx $15 for the 10 rounders which the compact uses, full size will work also but they really hang out.

FWIW:

I "had" a P99c/AS, and a P99/AS.. My friend has the SW99...

In shooting them "head to head" I couldn't tell any difference in accuracy, performance or anything else.

Next to the HK P7 I've never had a pistol more inherently accurate than the P99c/AS.

The SW99 will come with a lifetime warranty vs that of the one year with a Walther P99..

Get it, you'll be well satisfied.

Thanks to all for the responses and confirming what I was already confident in.

I did go ahead and complete a purchase this evening for a SW99C in 9mm. I don't have it yet, but probably within the next week.

While I don't have a 'pure' Smith & Wesson yet, seems I am edging that way! First Walther P99, then a hybrid SW99C, and next.... Maybe a 3913 or 908?

I wish I could find an NIB P99 for $550...in this area the only NIB P99 I've found is listed at $730.

Don't worry about that, if you hang around here long enough you won't be able to resist buying one. But the SW99 should keep you happy until you convert. They are great pistols.
