What $350 will get you..
I picked up this extremely clean S&W 1076 and two mags for $350 flat yesterday. No box, but I ain't complaining.
The odd thing is it has 291 stamped beneath the model number.

The 291 could be a badge number, employee number or rack number. Many law enforcement and security companies do this for inventory and repair.

Are you sure you didn’t leave the “1” off from the front of the 350?
I think this qualifies as the 2022 deal of the year so far. Enjoy!

A rack or badge number was my assumption.

There was a time I can remember when $350 would have been a nice, but not crazy-exceptional, price for that gun. Good looking 1076! Congrats!

It was kind of funny. I sold this gun to a friend years and years ago, because he was always after me to sell it to him. I finally consented and offered it to him for the $350 I paid for it. He said, "It's worth more than that." I said, "that's what I'll take."
He called me over last night, and it was sitting on the table. He offered it back and I asked the price. He offered it to me for the $350 he paid for it. I said, "It's worth more than that." He said, "that's what I'll take."
I believe I'll hang onto it this time.

Ok that makes more sense.
I couldn't believe that you got that at any gun shop for that price.

Hello Scott1970,
At $350, you might want to get into the witness protection program.
Good find even better price!

You made up for getting (self) swindled the first time. Nice work! The fact that you have it in your possession is the important thing.

I think you might owe your friend the fixings for a nice 4th of July BBQ. And fireworks. And…

That's what friends do.In years past my shooting buddy and I would trade back and forth while he was around. We probably traded 20 or so guns back and forth over the years. No money just the gun, it always worked out.Hard to do that today, he was a good friend.

This was my first 10mm. It led to a Delta Elite, pre-lock 610, Glock 20 and 29, Sig Legion and GP100. The Sig is the best of the bunch.

SCORE!
Great gun at a felonious price - you got it for about a 25% of what a similar example generally goes for.
For most of us, $350 will get you 2-3 10XX mags and no gun.

For what this unconfirmed maybe might be, I read or saw that VA state police marked their 10mm the same as your 1076. My 1076 is stamped the same way with #174. I dug around for info after buying mine.

I had no clue they issued the 1076, but I will say the stamp on mine was applied much better than some I've seen from other departments over the years. Thank you for the reply.
A buddy from work just bought a clean Glock 22 with night sights for $300, but they've always traded/sold cheap at the department.

It was around mid 1990’s I bought a new 6” (or was it 6.5”) full shroud 657 for $400 otd. Told the dealer, “double or nothing on the 1066”.
Sold the 657 a few years later, and the 1066 remains unfired, (still can’t figure that out.)
Have had 1911’s, Tanfolio’s, G20, 1006, 1076….and the 610 was the best of the 10mm’s to me.
