Aftermarket 6906 mags?
Anyone ordered these Mec-Gar-made 6906 mags from this company? I’m looking at their 12-rounders.
If so, how did the mags work out? … And how was your customer experience with this company?

Thanks!

I've bought from them before , great folks . Never bought those though . There was a post about after market mags for that series a while back , I bought 6 of them . They are well made , ss , and look like factory . I can't remember the name , I'm sure someone will come along that remembers .

IIRC Pro-Mag is the aftermarket magazine brand you want to be careful about. This info is just what I have read several times on various forums, not from any personal experience. YMMV.

Mecgar mags are usually OEM. Bottom line: you cannot go wrong with Mecgar. Were I still using the 6906, I would carry the standard 12-round mag in the pistol, using 5906 mags as spares. Good to have a few extra of the standard 12-round ones though.

If I understood correctly the 6906 mags are a Robertson only hybrid - using the Mecgar 5906/10 tube which uses a long plastic base but using a shorter plastic base.
While I would agree the all metal Mecgar 5906 mags are high quality and I have never heard any complaints on either their 15 or 17 rd mags, I dont know how much experience is out there with the 5906 or the 6906 using the long plastic base.
Would be interested in anyone who has used the Robertson 6906 variants.
As to the other aftermarket 6906 - I believe they were United Defense and they appear to be a near-exact clone of the late SW mags. These have right side only mag notch and 4 staggered holes left and 5 right. They are available in blue or stainless - both marked S and O at base like the SW stainless mags (I have never seen a real SW 6906 blue mag marked S and O at base).

If you own a pistol with a steel magazine, there's a ninety percent chance that "OEM" mag was made by MecGar. Buy with confidence.

Mec-Gar mags are usually high quality and reliable. Mec-Gar is an OEM manufacturer for a large part of the semi-auto firearm world. Those United Defense mags do look like original S&W mags and I don't recall hearing any complaints about them. ProMag, however... probably good for practicing the art of clearing feed failures.

I purchased either some 3913 or 6906 factory mags awhile back from Robertsons. They worked perfectly and service was great. Still have the 3913 but sold the very used 6906 months ago. I picked up an as new 6906 yesterday with 2 original mags. I found an ad from another source with what looks like 6906 mags for $26. I'm torn on which to get.
As a side note, I've had a Promag 4506 mag in the past. It worked fine. That being said I would stick with the S&W looking or the Mecgar mags.

FYI - I am not sure I could visually distinguish the stainless United Defense 6906 clone mags from the real SW mags - would guess the $26 mags are the clones if they are new.
The blue UD mags have S and O markings just above the plastic base that I have never seen on blued SW 6906 mags (only SS). I am not saying the UD mags are bad, just that I would rather be able to distinguish from OE.

For what it's worth, another alternative is to get these magazine adapters, which allows you to use a 15 round "59" magazine. They have worked great for me.

Precision Gun Specialties makes those. They are available direct from them on their website. Just look for "Grip Plus 2" in the menu on the left of the main page. I used them for years and really like how they blend in with the grip of the pistol.
PGS also makes a darn good little boot grip for J and K-frame S&Ws. Same material as the adapter, IMO it's kind of a sleeper in that it's really a great little inexpensive grip.
