Rescued an unusual one from Sportsman's Warehouse today
All I wanted to do was buy a bulk pack of handgun cleaning patches since I was running low. Of course I had to take a look at the used gun cases. They got another mother lode in. The clerk said they won a bid of a mega lot from Kentucky State Police. Spied this beauty on the bottom shelf---Model 5926---first frame mounted decocker model I have ever seen, and surprisingly clean for a SW used gun in a mega bulk buy. With the $202 I had accumulated in Explore rewards points, it was $315 OTD. Here she is all scrubbed and shampooed....

Nice find! I'd bet that was an investigator or ranking officer's sidearm. The troops got 5906s IIRC.

The sportsman’s warehouse by me which is near a local high volume gun dealer is often glanced over. I’ve seen some great used guns there and I always make a point to check it out when I’m around

The KSP auctions off seized firearms every year - it's probably one of those.

I do not recall ever seeing that marking on the slide before.

If you are referring to the 5926 model number on left of slide and "Parts Must Agree ..." on right side of slide, most if not all of the early 5926 with D shaped trigger guard were so marked. I have also seen a few with the rounded trigger guard, but most of the 5926 with rounded trigger guard seem to not have those markings.
Not sure of the timeline, but I have seen 5944, 6944, 6946 with and without similar markings.

Good to know. I have only ever seen a couple of the decocker versions and they were likely later ones I assume. When it comes to S&W I have stayed up on the old revolvers more so than autos…. Other than the fact that I stick to the 3rd gen autos if I plan to use / carry it.
Thanks for the response.

Good find!
I'm not familiar with that model. Does the decocker also cock, similar to the Sauer 38H?

I'm not familiar with the Sauer 38H, but depressing the decock lever puts the gun in a sort of half cock, which shortens the first trigger pull. After that it goes into single action.

Ha! Nice. Greetings, from Covington!
I handled that exact gun a month or so ago when I was there. I probably would have bought if it had the round trigger guard.
From what I remember, I don’t think that one has the side plate upgrade. There was a recall with decocker 3rd gens where they changed-out the side plate for one with a black plastic spacer. Numrich actually has the upgraded part in stock, if you wanna grab one. Supposedly the decocker could bind up (or something like that) without it.
But yeah, they had a few cool specimens there when I stopped in. Any idea if they’re getting more stuff? They had a 4506-1 last year which they also said was from KSP. So, maybe it’s ongoing?

It would be interesting to see what happened if he called S&W Customer Service and asked for a shipping label so he could get it fixed under the warranty.

I shipped a 1076 back to Smith in 2017 for decocker/side plate thing and they took care of it, free of charge. Granted, that was 5 years ago. They might just keep it and offer you an M&P.

I do plan on contacting S&W customer service pretty soon, as Gary mentioned, to see if they're still doing these recall checks/repairs on the frame mounted decocker models.
Agreed that Sportsman's Warehouse occasionally gets in some pretty decent used guns. I don't know if they're getting in any more, but they had 2 or 3 pretty decent Colts in the used case, but I didn't ask to look at any of them.
As for that 4506-1 you mentioned, it's in my gun safe as well. I couldn't say no to it anymore when they had it marked down to $499 last summer!

I do not believe so.....these guns are best bought after thoroughly inspecting them in person. The majority of them can be in rough shape, but they manage to sell them.
